They froze in their footsteps. The sound of screaming died out slowly, as if it's belonger was slowly being agonized to death by Alessi.
"Wanna check it out?" Kalera whispered.
"Yeaahhhhh, no," Alena responded.
"Oh my god." Then Caroline realized. "If someone just died, we're going to...ALESSI YOU DUMBASS!"
She was interrupted by the crackling of the loudspeaker.
"Congratulations, players. You are the last ones standing. What an interesting group of individuals...how peculiar you have made it this far. Please report to the main office for your prize."
Team Invictus gathered at the main office, including Alessi. Men in black cloaks slammed open the doors and entered the hallway.
"Run," Kalera whispered.
They began to sprint away, but were immediately caught by the men, who were yelling in their creepy, deep voices.
"Stay down. You must receive your reward," one of them boomed. Although his face was mostly hidden under the shadow of his hood, they could still see the cruel smile beginning to spread across his lips.
"Aw, hell nah!" Alena yelled, kicking her captor.
"WHAT IS WITH THIS ANGSTY, EDGY TEENAGE SLANG!"
"Your mom!"
The man gasped in astonishment. "How does my mother come into all of this?!"
Alena just stuck out her tongue while attempting to run off as the man gasped, deeply offended.
"HOW VULGAR!"
"Excuse me," Caroline asked politely. "Can we go?"
"I don't know, can you?" he laughed snidely.
"When I said 'can' I was using its secondary modal form as a verbal modifier asking for permission, as opposed to expressing an ability. I thought you would know that. Aren't you, like, 200 years old or something?"
"You kids and your stalling when you're about to die," he muttered. They began to force the girls into the auditorium, ignoring their kicking and screaming. The doors slammed open as the men pushed through.
Filling the seats were people wearing the same, familiar black cloaks. Only now did they realize the weird symbols that displayed on the back of them. A man in a white cloak instead of a black one stood on the stage, in front of a giant fire. The bright flames danced and flickered, taunting Team Invictus. The thick gray smoke bellowed overhead.
He tapped the microphone. "Testing...testing..." The microphone squeaked awkwardly. As the girls were forced to the stage, the men began to cheer.
"Brothers of Caedes," he began. "We are gathered here today for the sacrifice of these four children. Hopefully it will please our overlord. We, as the brothers of Caedes, believe that to please our overlord, we will have to end humanity in a way we have done here in this school. This, brothers, is a small sample of what we're going to do to the world. This was merely a small test. Our overlord wants blood. Our overlord wants humanity to end. Let us begin the sacrifice."
"SCREW YOU ALL!" Caroline screamed, giving out middle fingers and yelling curses.
"SILENCE, INCOMPETENT CHILD!"
"APPARENTLY I'M INCOMPETENT, ACCORDING TO THE GUY HAVING TROUBLE RESTRAINING AN ELEVEN YEAR OLD!"
"I'LL SACRIFICE YOU FIRST!"
