When I had gotten home dad had said something about how he thought something wasn't right and had Sebastian go check on Nia. I tried to tell him that Nia would be fine and could take care of herself but seeing as now she was curled up on our couch, eyes completely blank, and he heart beating like she just ran a 10k marathon, I'll say I was wrong.
"What happened?" I asked Sebastian
"Hel-Blar. I heard her scream, ran in, her mom and dad dead, She just stood there screaming."
"Crap..." I walked over to her. "Nia?" She saw me and jumped on me into a hug. She started crying.
"Marcus... what's going on... please tell me." She cried.
"Maybe it'd be best if Dad told you." I held her. She shook her head.
"No you tell me. I don't want anyone else to tell me." I sighed
"Okay, but only if you tell me what's going on with you. I know you aren't yourself and I know it." We sat down on the couch and both of us started to explain. I went first. "Look... I know that you know about ghosts and witches and mind readers and all that stuff and actually... there's other things that exist as well... vampires."
'W-w-what?" She looked like a child who couldn't quite reach the shelf for a glass.
"Vampires are real... and well... that's what we are.""So your entire family is vampires?"
"No... yes... well... to an extent. We are human just like everyone else until we turn 16 when then we are genetically changed into vampires." I told her.
"So that's where you were. You couldn't talk to me because you were too busy...dying?"
"Well no I'm not really dead.... it's complicated. In a way I was trying to live."
"Oh...." she still looked sad, confused, and broken. That broke my heart."
"Yeah. I'm really sorry about that... Okay your turn." She took a deep breath.
"Okay... you know how my dad is a mind reader and I'm not exactly sure when my mind reading is supposed to actually start working?"
"Yeah?"
"Well right now.... Sebastian, is thinking about how he hates being the oldest because it means he always has to do the work." She said. Sebastian looked up with both confusion and embarrassment etched on his face.
"Wait! You can actually hear what we are thinking?" I asked and she nodded her head causing her bangs to fall into her eyes.
I had been so busy worrying about my blood change I hadn't noticed how much she had changed. Her original emerald eyes had somehow become more green and more beautiful if that was even possible, her hair had grown quite a bit, I now took in the fact she never took off her jacket and she alway wore makeup. And now, I was unsure if it was the blood change or the way I could now smell, and hear the blood rushing underneath her skin, but something about her seemed to glow.
"Marcus..." She squeeked
"Yeah?"
"Could you please stop thinking about so many things at once, it's giving me a headache."
" Oh, sorry." I apologised, she nodded her head.
"And you're right," She spoke again, "I am different." crap she heard that! I just hope I was thinking of so much She was unable to hear everything else running through my head.
"Why don't you just go up stairs into the guest room and get some rest." I suggested. She nodded and Sebastian took her upstairs to show her where to stay.
