*six years later*

Okay so Lucy took Solange to this weird party thing and Nicholas and Logan  went to pick them up and almost left Lucy so now Mom is yelling at both Nicholas and Solange and it's all very confusing. Really the only thing that isn't confusing is what I was doing right now, and that was science... I mean Nia is here and she's really confusing but hey I'm cool with that.

To be honest Nia was a bit distracting because well I mean she had changed since we were five. She was more scary, more dark, mysterious, dangerous ,more.... beautiful.  It was something about the way her smile had that shy tone to it, and the way her eyes sparked, the way her hair flowed so it perfectly fits her face and the oversized sweatshirts she wears that looked so adorable. She was not skinny but not fat either, she was pretty but not fake, she was just... perfect.

"Uggh!" She groaned.

"What?" I asked without taking my eyes off my project.

"This stupid science question! I hate it, science is a brat." She threw her head down on the table.

"Because you're my friend and I love you I'm gonna pretend like you didn't say that." I set down the beaker of chemicals I was holding and walked over to her, "What is it?"

"Okay, if you kept walking in a straight line on a flat surface with no visible features, is it possible to walk in circles eventually?" She asked. I came up behind her and put my hands on the table on both sides of her, trapping her between my arms.

"Well, People often favor one leg over the other. It is possible that over time the discrepancy between the two leg strides may indeed cause you to walk in circles.
"Thanks, and... What is the Law of Conservation of Energy?"

"The energy of the Universe is constant; it can neither be created or destroyed but only transferred and transformed." I poked her nose. She wiggled it as if she was trying to scratch it, that was so cute.

Normally, I might have told Nia how I felt but with the circumstances, like she had a boyfriend, I decided to not say anything.

"So how's Gerard?" I asked her. She sighed and rolled her eyes.

"Fine... I guess."

"Hey now that didn't sound convincing... " I put my hand on her shoulder.

"I saw him with this other girl on the street... kissing... I don't really want to say anything because I don't want to lose him... but it just.... I don't know anymore." She put her head on my shoulder when I pulled her into a hug.

"Nia, that's so wrong! You can't stay with him you need to leave him." I was not just telling her this because of my feelings for her but simply because I actually cared about her.

"I don't know... " She sighed, "I just wanna do my work right now."

I went back to my work when there was a noise that interrupted the silence.

"It's just Gerard. Wants to go out for dinner." She said and got up from the chair she was sitting in.

"You don't actually plan on going, do you?" I asked

"Well what else? Marcus he's still my boyfriend." She said annoyed.

"Nia I'm just saying that because I care for you." She rolled her eyes

"Yeah care for me. Does care for me mean think constantly how my lips feel under yours? Does it mean constantly think about how my body fits with yours? Don't act like I don't hear you okay. Because I do."
Well crap. She walked out of the barn and that was it. I can't believe she could hear me.
The entire night I kicked myself. I knew she had a boyfriend, I knew she would be able to hear me and yet I thought about her constantly.

When I saw the headlights of her car pull up I ran out to go apologize to her. Then I saw her face. Her eyes were all puffy and red like she had been crying, she had one black eye and a big purple bruise across her cheek. I ran to her before she fell to the ground.
She started to cry.

"Nia... shshshsh... what happened."

"I... I broke up with Gerard..."

"Well... I mean that's good but... why... what happened to your face?"

"Let's just say he didn't take it as easily as I did." She gave me a painful smile.

I smiled back at her and helped her up. I took her into the barn, sat her on the couch and went to go get some ice. I put it on her cheek and another on her eye. She put her hand over mine.

"Thank you Marcus." She whispered

"For what?"

"Everything. Mainly just caring for my dumb ass." I chuckled and looked at her, then I caught her eyes... and hers caught mine. We looked at each other for a while, about ten seconds or so, but it felt like an hour. I could hear her heart beating. Thump... thump... thump... thump.. thump.. thump.. thump.. thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump thump thump thump thump. Her heartbeat got faster, her blood smelled sweeter. It's everything in my will power to hold back. She cleared her throat.

"Well.... umm... I'm gonna go to bed..."  she stood up.

"Yeah....um..." she began to walk out.

I wanted to stop her. Hold her in my arms, hug her as tight as I possibly could. But I knew she needed time and space. But was that really something girls needed or was that something I wanted to believe girls needed? Did she really actually need someone to hold her? Help her through this heartbreak? Why couldn't girls be like science, science is simple it's an easy yes or no, and if you didn't know something, you tested it, and if it went wrong no big deal start over again. But girls are so much more complicated, test something out and it goes wrong you could ruin everything. I wondered if Mom and Dad ever had a problem like this? No not the perfect Helena and Liam, they're... well ... perfect...

"Marcus..." she stopped before stepping outside.

"Yeah?" I looked at her hopeful.

"You're doing it again... it hurts..."

"What?" I was confused as to what she was talking about.

"You're thinking too much at one time. It hurts my head. It gives me a terrible terrible migraine." She said softly.

"Oh... I'm sorry." I blushed at the fact I forgot she could hear what I was saying.

"It's fine. Good night... or... well morning.... shouldn't you be getting in bed as well?" She turned to look at me.

She was right. Sunlight had started to slip through the crevices in the barn., and I was starting to get a bit drowsy.

"Yeah... I guess." I shrugged and we both went off to bed.
