Emmeline's POV.
Two days later.
Billy did bring me to and from school for the past two days, and I met Max the first day he took me home, and she immediately thought I was one of Billy's one night stands or something. My heart slightly hurt, finding out that Billy had one night stands, but I got over it quickly. I wasn't his girlfriend, so I had no right to feel that way. Yes, he seemed to be my imprint, but that didn't mean he and I were in a romantic relationship. I would be anything he needs, a lover, a sister, or just a friend, but over all, I am his protector. After Billy and I both told her that I was just a new friend of his, and that I would be riding with them to and from school, we had begun to get along quite well. I liked her, and she seemed to like me too. I decided that I would also protect her, even if she's not my imprint, and she didn't seem that important to Billy, she was important to me, so I'll protect her as much as I can. Currently, it was Thursday and I was in the woods, far from my house and any neighborhoods, and I was in my wolf form. It was beautiful snowy white with some dark tuffs of fur, much like how my hair is. I was running, exploring the forest terrain. It was... exhilarating to me. It was October 31, Halloween. Max told me that they started school a day before I did, which would be the 29th. Max was out trick or treating with some friends I guess, and Billy was going to some party. He invited me to go with him, but I declined. I hadn't been in my wolf form since my parents moved us to Hawkins. Even before that I think. Anyways, it wasn't dark out yet, but even then I knew the woods would be too scary for most kids to venture in, so I wanted to shift and roam the forests. I had no idea I would be watching the Halloween Party Billy was at, or that later in the night I would be discovered by two boys and Max.
"What the heck is that?!" Max asked as she and her friends were in the woods, why? I don't have any clue why they would be in the woods at night. I was letting out small growls and grunts, trying to scare them to leave the forest, but that made them run deeper into the woods.
"Max! Stay behind us!" The darker skinned boy said as him and his curly haired friend stood in ghost buster suits, in front of Max.
Knowing I wouldn't be able to get them out of there in my wolf form, I made an illusion of my giant wolf as I quietly went behind them and shifted, putting on the clothes I had tied to my legs after shifting into a wolf.
"Max! Boys! Run!" I shout as I had finished getting dressed. The illusion appeared from the trees, growling and snarling at the kids.
"Emmy!!!" Max exclaimed, running towards me with the boys following. I grab her hand as I lead them back to where I had tried to get them out of the forest before. Max was terrified. "What was that thing?!"
"Do you think..." the curly haired boy turned to the dark skinned one.
"I don't know what that was, but don't go into the woods at night, Alright?" I bend to her height, checking her over for scratches. "Are you three Alright? No cuts or anything? What were you doing there?"
"We got distracted and must've walked into the woods." Max sighs.
"Well, pay more attention, Alright? I worry about you, Max." I tell her.
"Who is this, Max?" The dark skinned one asks curiously.
"Guys, this is Emmeline Hale. She's kinda friends with Billy."
"I'm also a friend of Max. I'm Tommy's cousin, I recently moved to Hawkins with my parents." I shake their hands. "What're your names?"
"I'm Lucas Sinclair." The dark skinned one says, shaking my hand.
"I'm Dustin Henderson. Have you ever fought one of those things before?" He asks curiously. I shake my head hesitantly.
"No, but I guess I could've if I had to." I shrug. "You guys should get going."
"Right." They nod before taking their leave, walking down the road to get more candy. I make sure no one notices or sees me as I go back into the woods once again. I find the illusion, right where I left it.
"At least those three won't come into the woods any time soon." I release a breath of relief before dissipating the illusion and shifting again after taking my clothes off and then retrying them to my leg in wolf form.
I spend the rest of the night, watching over the three kids, and also Billy whenever the kids would be stopped at a house for a while. I watch as Billy gets in his car, slightly drunk, and make his way home. Not long after that, I see Max leaving her two guy friends and heading home herself. I follow her from the safety of the trees before I head into their back yard. The lights were mostly all off except for in Billy's room and Max's. I tread lightly over to the back of their house, peeking into Max's to see her sitting on her bed, fixing her skateboard. I sigh before retreating to the woods and heading home. I make it to find my parents gone, probably at work or out on a date. I shift, dressing quickly, and going through the door outside that leads into the basement(like at Mike's) and entering my room. My parents were the only ones that knew about my ability to turn into a giant wolf, and so they converted the basement into my room/den. I was able to sleep in either form, comfortably on my bed since it was pretty much just two or three mattresses on the floor with a sheet and blankets. There were tons of pillows too, so I could create a little nest if I wanted to. I made sure the doors were all locked before I went to bed, not hungry enough to eat anything.
