summary

gabriel keeps having nightmares about the fall.

gabriel rolled over, groaning in his sleep, thrashing. the sickly fluorescent lights above him buzzed gently, illuminating his angelic form.
"gabriel? you okay?"
gabriel woke slowly, the nightmare fading from his mind. tears began to collect on his soft eyelashes, threatening to roll down his cheeks as he blinked himself from sleep. gabriel sat up slowly, wrapping his thick arms around beelzebub. the room that they were sleeping in at the moment, a dirty room in hell that beelzebub tried her best to clean up, made him feel sick.
the prince of hell closed her eyes for a moment. "another nightmare?" she asked as she wrapped her arms as far as they could go around gabriel's thick chest.
"yeah. i..." gabriel's nightmare played itself out in his mind. it was the same nightmare as most of the nights. beelzebub stood before an army of angels all baring their teeth and snarling, but she looked so strong leading them. her fists were clenched so tightly the knuckles turned bone white. gabriel watched, and he felt his knees threatening to buckle. he couldn't move. beelzebub stared him down, hatred, burning hatred glinting in her eyes. but just below that, gabriel could see through the cracks the pure fear and pain she felt.
the fall was the hardest thing gabriel ever had to do. he couldn't stand it. all he wanted then, all he wanted now, was to wrap his arms around beelzebub and not let go, not let go until... ever.
"it's okay. i'm here now. it's okay. we're okay," beelzebub repeated in his ear, softly, while running her hand through his hair.
gabriel couldn't help but taste the uncertainty in her voice.
"what's going to happen to us?" gabriel asked quietly, his voice cracking.
a thousand futures flashed before beelzebub's eyes. gabriel falling. beelzebub being executed by hell. gabriel being executed by heaven. both of them being executed. it was so fucking selfish of her to love the enemy. but how could she not? gabriel was beautiful, inside and out, and he cared about her. he trusted her, she trusted him. trust wasn't something beelzebub was used to. but she liked it.
"it's going to be okay," beelzebub said. gabriel looked at her, his violet eyes glimmering with tears. both of them knew that tomorrow, that might not be true, but as long as they were in each other's arms, nothing could hurt them.
nothing.
