4 years ago, Ume Kawa met a guy named Dimitri Adonis. Ume had a secret crush on Adonis but somehow her secret got out around the other girls and Adonis approached her first, she was extremely nervous at first. After a week or so, they started dating. They've been dating for 4 years, even going to Kobayashi Academy together, in fact, he was the reason why she went to that school. Ume crammed hard just to be with him, Kobayashi Academy was not an easy school to get into, it only selects a few who are worthy. Ume and Adonis would always meet up, even study together, she even learned how to cook just for him. Though the 4-year relationship had been a bit tough at times, Ume was still happy and loved him no matter what.

She was a very supportive and loyal girlfriend, she was also territorial, she would do anything to make him happy, even had fully thought-out plans of marrying him one day. But the problem was that she was overly attached, one may consider that a blessing, another, just plain bothersome. Though over time, he didn't appreciate her enough, he'd often leave her text messages on "read" and was just mean to her at times, but she always loved him because of his kind, sweet, and romantic words. She was very anxious and almost never got proper sleep at night because Adonis was in danger of being stolen by Ume's rival, Michi Sendo. Michi dedicated her life to ruining Ume's life, it was unknown to Ume as for why Michi hated her, but she always had to one-up Ume in just about everything. Ume could never sleep until she made absolute sure that Adonis was okay, even going to his dorm room just to tell him "Oyasumi" rather than a simple text message. Though Ume was happy, it was as almost if she relied on his sweetness to keep her happy just to take her mind off of the dark depression dwelling up inside of her that was also caused by him.
("Oyasumi" is "goodnight" inJapanese.)
One day, Ume had a gut feeling, left class to check a particular spot no one goes to, she had been secretly checking "that" spot for days because of these gut feelings, these gut feelings drove her to do FBI levels of investigation. Ume was determined to make sure Adonis wasn't up to anything sneaky, it wasn't that she didn't trust him, but Adonis had given her too many signs to not trust him. Upon checking this final time, to Ume Kawa's horror, Adonis was seen making out with Michi. Ume, stood there frozen as if she were in a nightmare she couldn't wake up from, unable to see the reality in front of her, as reality slowly began to sink in, realizing her 4-year relationship and future were meaningless, with tears in her eyes, her chest beating violently, and her voice breaking and stuttering, confronted them, desperately demanding for answers.

Adonis tried explaining but Ume wasn't believing anything he said, she didn't know what to believe, even if she was told the truth. So many questions had been swirling in her head and as every split second passed, a new question formed in her head, she had about a thousand to trillions of questions that she wanted answered, and even the questions she was afraid to ask him back then had all poured out. "HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON?! WHY?! H-HOW COULD YOU?! AM I NOT GOOD ENOUGH?! WAS I EVER GOOD ENOUGH?! DID YOU EVEN LOVE ME AT ALL?! IF SO, WHEN DID YOU STOP?!..." and it just kept going. Ume's drive to know was consuming and came at the expense of rational thoughts and behaviors. She needed to understand why this happened, but it was beyond anyone's ability to explain it. Ume was fixated on things her lover said at various times that she sees as contradicting the betrayal, and she held onto them now as if they are gospel. Yet somewhere within, she had moments of clarity, too. Ume swung back and forth between foggy disbelief, the daily, moment by moment rediscovery of the magnitude of her loss, and flashes of painful clarity that of course it's over.
The pain, disorganization, and confusion had become all Ume thought about. But initially, she remained driven to understand what happened, at any cost. The desperation to make sense of something so jarring would have compelled her to debate friends, family, coworkers, even strangers, about why her relationship had ended, while she justified to them the reasons it shouldn't have as if convincing them it is equal to convincing her ex.

Michi standing there with a smug look on her face, Ume was enraged and reacted by targeting Michi violently. Unfortunately, the fight was broken up by Adonis as well as some staff members that jumped in, Michi was badly bruised. Ume had attempted to run to her dorm room crying, didn't look back, in fact, she didn't know where she was going, she just ran, breathing hard, before she knew it, Ume fell to her knees and passed out.
