Part 2 - Pressure

While I was trying to gain Dr. Lecter's trust, Buffalo Bill had striked again. But this time, he didn't take some anonymous, no one would miss girl. He had lured the daughter of Senator Ruth Martin into his van. A chubby college student whose good nature was taken advantage of when she saw an injured man needing help. Jame Gumb, an older homely looking man wearing an arm brace, was struggling to lift a chair into the back of his van. Being the only person around, in good conscience, couldn't ignore someone in need. Sadly it was all staged to make her feel that way. Within minutes, Jame was able to convince her to get into the van willingly to drag the chair inward as he pushed. Pinned to the wall, Jame beat her in the face until she blacked out.

Jack Crawford paged me to his office as if I was someone important for Senator Martin to meet. Until this very moment, Crawford wanted me to believe my time with Dr. Lecter was just a  survey assignment. Now I needed to pretend I was in the loop the whole time in front of the worried mother. Prove to my boss I could play along when the stakes were high. I ensured her that we were getting virtual clues from the good doctor. The Senator did her part by running ads on T.V. about her daughter's abduction. Broadcasting childhood pictures and accomplishments in hopes of buying more time for her daughter. It's harder to kill someone you see them as a person. For serial killers, they develop this skill to disassociate. It usually starts with animals. They don't recognize love or the desire to nurture any form of life. They'd rather snuff it out. Kidnapping a random girl is nothing more than a blank canvas. Her death is your art. The switch that makes everyone feel guilty is turned off. But when parents plea for their children and beg you to get invested in their story... sometimes that switch can be turned back on for a brief period.

Catherine wakes up at the bottom of a dry well with a small poodle barking down at her. Her body is aching all over with bruises on her face," Hello?!"

She could see a wooden ceiling above the dog's head. They weren't outside. She continued to scream," Hey! Anybody! I'm down here!"

A water bottle was tossed over the edge and landed by her feet proving someone was listening. She took a sip to lube her scratchy throat," Hey, please, can you help me?"

Jame stepped forward smiling," No one is going to help you."
