~toxic
/ˈtɒksɪk/
very bad, unpleasant, or harmful.~

~eddy~

"hey look, it's lauren, should i go talk to her?" eddy said to the other boy. "bro, you've like never talked to her," brett said. eddy shrugged off his comment and retaliated, "well, she's my crush for a reason." and before brett could say anything back, eddy went off to lauren.

eddy tried to talk to lauren, but they didn't really click. there were a lot of awkward silences. sure she was a nice girl, but the two weren't really compatible. eddy walked back to brett sadly. "she's not the one," he muttered to the other. brett shook his head and patted his shoulder in sympathy, "most people don't meet 'the one' in high school. you shouldn't get to worked up over this." eddy smiled at brett's sympathy. he was right, he would just have to wait for all these crushes to pass by. 'the one' would make themselves obvious.

when brett and eddy parted ways, eddy thought back to the endless amount of girlfriends he had. each one was toxic, pretending to like eddy, when they just wanted to torment him and get stuff from him. he was a slave to them, he gave all he could, and never got anything. eddy remembered his first girlfriend, "get me this and get me that." eddy did everything and never got anything in return. he gave up his dignity and money and time to this girl, and he was left in the dust after completing his job. brett finally knocked some sense into eddy, to breakup with her, and it was the most relieving feeling in his life. the next... multiple girlfriends all did that, except they at least tried to act like they loved him. eddy couldn't see past the facade, not even in their dull eyes, and brett always had to get him to realise that they were toxic as well.

he opened the door to his house, and picked up his violin. he practised a sad piece, for the memories of his exes kept arising. he eventually went to bed, and stared at the stars. "when will i meet 'the one'?" he asked. he felt himself fall into a deep slumber, and he didn't see the stars twinkle brighter whenever his thoughts travelled to his best friend.

the stars twinkle brighter for the most beautiful soulmates

~brett~

when brett and eddy parted ways for their houses, brett was thinking. he thought about eddy, all those times he comforted and all those times he helped him. ah, what an oblivious child, always blinded by love. i've helped him so many times with heartbreak that i might as well be his guardian angel. brett chuckled to himself. one day he'll finally see in front of his love, and see behind the mask his lovers put on. one day...

brett arrived home and checked his phone. 6:49, parents aren't home yet... brett figured. he smiled and immediately got on his laptop. he brought his violin for when his parents and logged on to maple story. he played and played, and when he heard a car pull up to the garage, he closed everything and started playing on his violin. his mind subconsciously went to Prokofiev: Sonata for two violins in C. he played his part and he practised the harder parts over and over. he heard the other part- eddy's part- in his mind as he played. the two fit together wonderfully, one relying on the other.

he felt his eyes droop, and sleep called for him. he did his nightly routine, the thoughts in his head were amusing. he then remembered what happened with lauren today, and silently wished for eddy to be happy after that. "when will eddy finally find her? and when will i be able to be free of his reliance?" brett whispered to the stars, a little joke in his tone. his mind rocked him to sleep. thoughts and memories of him and eddy appeared in his head. he remembered the time they met, when brett was a little taller than eddy, and he swore that one day he'll be taller, and guess that happened, and by quite a margin, too. he remembered eddy's first crush, and he swooned every single day, until he rejected her, and he heard his little chuckle. he remembered his own first crush, who eventually found out and friendzoned him, ah, he had dreams.

and his eyes closed with comfort and contentedness. he was too happy in his own head that he never saw the stars gleam brighter. the stars shone upon brett, bringing him to a beautiful place with eddy. where eddy's head was brought too. and the entire night, the stars shone brighter and longer than they every had before.

for when two soulmates thoughts collide together, the stars are allowed to shine a little brighter
