GOFGOFGOFGOFGOF

There was a few moments of stunned silence before the whispers began.

"Did she say Potter? As in Harry Potter?"

"She must've read it wrong, no way Harry Potter has a sister!"

"Haven't you been reading the papers? It's been confirmed!"

"Well, Potter is actually a common name in the States. I had a muggle pen pal who's last name is Potter."

I walked to the stool slowly, aware of the hundreds of eyes on my back. I sat down, facing the entire school gawking at me with shock, confusion and curiosity. Professor McGonagall placed the hat on my head and it began to speak.

"Hmmm..." it said, making me jump. "Interesting, very interesting. The youngest child of James and Lily Potter. You are bright and intelligent, but your intelligence can easily be overruled by your confidence. You are a brave girl, like your mother and loyal to your friends, like your father. You are quick to help those in need - all properties of a Hufflepuff...but no. You don't want to be a Hufflepuff, do you? You don't see it fit to be in the house that commends honesty. Determination and slyness, is what I see. You seem to have two sides. While you can be kind and righteous, you are also spiteful and blunt. You may not know what they are, yet, but you have ambitions, Potter, and you'll do whatever it takes to get to where you need to be. I think I know exactly where to put you..."

"SLYTHERIN!"

The entire atmosphere changed. It was tense, hostile. I felt frozen where I sat, hundreds of faces glaring at me, judging me. I desperately looked for Harry, and when I found him, his face was full of disappointment. I felt ashamed. With quivering hands, I took the hat off of my head and stood up, giving it back to McGonagoll.

As I began my walk of shame to the Slytherin table, two hands began to clap together rhythmically. I, along with the rest of the school, looked for the source of the sound. I found myself looking at the Ravenclaw table, where a blonde girl had stood up and began to clap for me. Over at the Gryfindor table, Ginny and Hermione were clapping as well, nudging their peers to get up and do the same. Pretty soon, the entire Gryffindor table was clapping and so were the Ravenclaws. The Hufflepuffs caught on quickly and clapped too, but only a few Slytherins joined in. The majority of the Great Hall was clapping and cheering for me, thanks to that one Ravenclaw girl. I caught her eye and grinned happily at her before going to sit at the Slytherin table, as far away from everyone else as possible.

Most of the Slytherins were glaring at me as if I'd done something to them, and I glared right back. The clapping died down and I didn't look up to the Gryffindor table again in fear that I would see my brother glaring at me the same way some of my new house-mates were. Three more people were sorted and Dumbledore stood before us.
