Chapter 1 - The Defense of Libya Base

Six Years Into the War

Vinny Natale, the man with a fedora and trench coat, shrouding his dark, stubble-ridden face. His eyes reflect a faint brown color, and his posture is brooding and mysterious. In front of him, a very different type of figure. Blanc, a young girl with short, white hair, and a colorful uniform.

Blanc is throwing baseballs at a target in an outdoor facility. The wind blows as the sun shines down on them. Vinny watches, his hand on his hat.

Blanc: "Y'know, sir... doesn't it get uncomfortable, wearing that in the heat?"

Vinny: "You should probably focus on your aim. Talking distracts you from hitting the target."

Blanc throws a baseball, and it barely hits the edge.

Blanc: "What's the use... we've been doing this for hours! I'll just hit near them, that'll be good enough!"

Vinny shakes his head. "You're being too overzealous, kid. I know you're excited to fight, but you're rushing progress. The more you rush it, the less of it you'll get."

Blanc: "Then... you try it!"

Vinny takes a few steps forward, picking a baseball up and squinting with one eye. His trench coat blows in the wind as he winds up and throws it. The baseball hits the target dead center, and he looks at Blanc.

Blanc: "... Don't brag."

Vinny: "You'll be able to do that if you take it one step at a time."

Blanc: "If you say so, sir... I can try."

Vinny reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small, tablet device.

Blanc: "Huh? Is someone calling you?"

Vinny: "This is a transmitter, most of our soldiers have one. They're purely for informational use, not for cell phone calls."

Blanc: "Can... I get one?"

Vinny: "... Yeah, you can have one too." He taps the transmitter, and a hologram appears from it. The man on the other end is wearing a white lab coat above a gray sweater, His hair is slicked back, and he's older than Vinny. Along with his left eye being mechanical, his right arm is a prosthetic as well. With a smirk on his face, he greets Vinny.

Shade: "Vinny... how are things?"

Vinny: "Get to the point, Shade."

Blanc squints as she thinks.

"Doctor Shade... Vinny's co-leader... and a pretty despicable guy, from what I've heard. Why's he always smiling like that?"

Shade: "Well, this is rather urgent... but, it seems we've received word from our Scorpius allies. Orion is planning an attack on Libya as we speak."

Vinny: "Now? They're striking now?"

Shade: "Libya's been weakened ever since the ambassador was assassinated, and they're going to use that weak point against us now."

Vinny: "Who's ordering the attack?"

Shade: "Direct orders from Lieutenant Hollow himself."

Vinny: "If the Lieutenant is going... I'm going, too. If we can capture him, we may be able to turn the tides of the war in Scorpius's favor."
