THOMAS POV

She was the fucking phantom.

Riccardo never killed all those leaders.

She did.

I gulp.

I fucking gulp.

The greatest assassin known to our world, maybe even the world, has been living under my roof.

That's why they could never figure out how Riccardo was in two places at once. He wasn't.

And no, no one would have thought of her back then, because this was such a patriarchal world...

But not anymore.

All the leaders here clearly respected her.

Feared her.

But I don't gulp because I was afraid she could have killed me... For some reason, I wasn't afraid of that at alll... I gulped because I was... Ashamed.

Y/n:"That was five years ago," she deflects, giving me a quick glance before starting to walk back towards me and the door, "There's another real reason why you're here. I think you should start working on that."

Riccardo:"You already killed the girl."

Y/n:"Only because she tried to kill me."

Riccardo:"You're really done then?"

Done with what?

Y/n:"Oh, yeah... You've no idea what I've been up to the last few years, brother."

She turns and reaches for the door handle and before I can even register what's happening-

Riccardo:"Catch," he says calmly as he throws a small dagger across the room towards her head.

She catches it, barely looking, on it's handle... Although I don't think she would have hesistated even if there was a chance she'd catch the blade.

Riccardo:"You're still as sharp though."

Y/n:"Always," she chuckles, "We'll catch up later... I apologize for interrupting the meeting, Thomas."

Thomas:"No need for apologies, doc," I fake a formal exchange even though all I wanted was to scream.

Everyone just nods and she walks out of the room.

I want to follow her, but I don't. I can't.

I try my best to hide all my anxiousness during the meeting, but all I really want to do is get answers.

-

Everyone leaves for the night but we plan for another meeting the day after tomorrow.

For the most part though, we got everything sorted.

I half expect Riccardo to stay, but he leaves without asking for his sister, probably knowing she'll go to him if and when she wanted to.

There's a twist in my stomach when I see her on the rooftop, making me both wanting run and stay.

Y/n:"You want answers," she says without facing me.

I nod, even if she couldn't see me, and take a long drag from my cigarette.

I did... I did want answers... But...

But I also wanted something else from her. The fuck?

Y/n:"Now you know why my identity was such a big secret," she almost chuckles.

Thomas:"Couldn't Riccardo find you? Your credentials and address were-" But I stop myself.

Y/n:"You're smarter than that, Thomas."

Thomas:"I only see what you want me to see," I nod to myself, feeling stupid once again.

She turns around smiling, but not fondly... More like a smile the devil makes when he gets his way.

Thomas:"Is this all just a game then? You wanted me to find you even if you complained about it."

Y/n:"I didn't want you to find me per say... More like, I gave you the option to, but it was your choice... I never lied, when I said we never would have met if you never came to my hospital. I didn't come to New York intending to ever meet you."

I don't know why that hurt a little bit.

But I turn that small bit of pain into anger and I walk towards her, a smug little smirk on her face.

Y/n:"And I did save all your people. I was never going to do anything bad, Thomas," she pretends to pout.

Thomas:"You're... Infuriating," I say through slightly clenched teeth as I look down at her.

Y/n:"Aw, come on, love," she tilts her head.

Thomas:"You made me look like a fool."

Y/n:"They didn't know that you didn't know."

Thomas:"I just got lucky I didn't reveal that fact or I would've looked like a complete imbecile."

Y/n:"How'd they find out about me anyway? Or get to asking about me so that you needed to fetch me?"

Thomas:"I didn't want to reveal much, granted I was trying not to mention you at all in fear that you'd be killed... Ha," I scoff, "Turns out you're the killer."

She flinches a little bit at that, but I don't know why.

She was clearly well equipped to handle much more.

Thomas:"They asked how we got rid of Naomi so I basically told them I had quite an interesting doctor... And that I thought they'd be quite fond of you."

Y/n:"Hm," she smirks.

Thomas:"Don't flatter yourself, I was merely trying to save your ass so I tried to make you look good."

Y/n:"Even without knowing who I was, you should've known by now that I don't need any saving."

Thomas:"Perhaps I was trying to save my own then... Anyway, I played it off saying you weren't a member because you don't necessarily believe in authority... Yet you played a great part in this organization."

Y/n:"It fit... You made it seem like you knew who I was, but didn't want to reveal it, even if you really didn't know... Well played. It seemed to work."

Thomas:"Like I said, it wasn't my intention. I got lucky. I had no idea who the fuck you were."

Y/n:"And now that you do?" She looks me dead in the eyes and I swear I saw dark flames amidst the blackness in her own eyes, not being able to decipher her pupil from her iris.

And it happened so quickly, I don't even remember how my lips met hers. I even felt her smirk, knowing that she knew she was in control... But I didn't care.
