Sanem stared at Metin's name on her phone and then noticed the time. It's pretty late. Maybe I should just call tomorrow morning...
She knew herself. If she waited too long, she would have second thoughts. So she typed out a text and quickly hit send before she could back out.<<Metin, its Sanem. I need your help. I messed up. If you don't want to talk to me I will completely understand.>>
She looked at the sent message. Already doubting herself and having an internal struggle.
Ugh.... I should have worded it differently!
It sounds desperate, doesn't it?
Of course it sounds desperate.
I am desperate!
Ugh!!She waited for the 3 little dots to appear to show that he was responding. But nothing happened. No dots. The panic started to rise within her.
What was I thinking? Of course he's not going to help me. Who am I to him? The girlfriend of the man who fired him and cut him out of his life?
It was stupid to hope. She felt she was on her own. Downtrodden, she closed her eyes and hung her head. Her phone buzzed, startling her and causing her to jump a little.
She saw Metin's name on the caller ID. Her breath caught in her throat. Her hands shook as she fumbled to answer the phone.S - "Hello?"
M - "Sanem? I was surprised to see your text. What's going on? What can I help you with?"
Sanem let out a relieved sigh, "Thank you for calling me, I know it's late. I really don't want to bother you. You really don't have to help me if you don't want to. I'll completely understand if -" she was babbling and he cut her off.
"Sanem, please. Of course I'll help you however I can." Sanem let out another relieved sigh. "Please tell me what's wrong and we will figure it out."
Sanem smiled, remembering Metin dropping her off at the construction sight for the photoshoot. Knowing now what he had planned all along. To get her and Can to spend some alone time together. She remembered Metin's smile and his kind eyes. Of course he will help. How could I have ever doubted him?She took a deep breath and told Metin the whole story. From the partnership agreement, Can's attempt to pay Fabri off, to the meeting this morning. It all came out in a rush. And when she finished she felt like she had run a marathon. But at the same time felt as if a huge weight had been lifted from her.
He listened intently the whole time. He mostly "uh hmmm" and "okayed". Only interrupting to ask a few follow up questions to clarify. Like when it came to how Aylin ended up with the shares.
He smirked and held in a chuckle when she got to the part about Can writing a check for $800,000.
Same Can - he thought to himself. Impetuous, jumps in with both feet, and will go down swinging for those he cares about."Sanem?" Metin asked when she was finished.
"Yes?" She was worried again. Not that he wouldn't help her, but could he? Had she dug herself in too deep?
"Breathe. I'm here. I'm glad you called. I'll help you sort this out. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Okay?"
"Okay."
"Do you have the contract with you?"
"Yes I have it here."
"Okay, let's meet in the morning before you go to work to give me the contract. I'll see if there are any loopholes."Sanem was full on crying now. The stress and the relief she felt all mixed together. She was trying her best to say thank you, but it kept coming out all strangled.
"Sanem, remember what I said - breathe. Now try to get a good night's sleep."
They arranged a time and place to meet. She finally managed to thank him and they wished each other a good night before they hung up.
Sanem put her phone down and curled up under her blanket. She was finally starting to calm down and as her breathing and heart rate slowed to normal and she fell fast asleep.Metin on the other hand, after hanging up with Sanem, opened his laptop, typed "Enzo Fabri" into the search bar, and got straight to work.
