Chapter 4

I wake up to Theo poking me. "go away" I say "I don't think you want me to go away" he says "if I go away and you go back to sleep you don't get breakfast". I groan and get out of bed. theos laughing "yes i know the hair looks like an Afro" I say "deal with it" and he stops laughing but is still smiling. I roll my eyes and follow him to the kitchen. I sit down at the table and he puts a plate of cinnamon rolls on the table and sits across from me. "ok let's discuss some ground rules" he says "there's rules" "yes,

And that's it" "really that's it" I say and honestly I'm in shock. "easy to live by" "yeah very easy" I reply. After breakfast he has me sit on the couch with him. "We are going to play a little game called three questions. you ask me three questions and I ask you three questins." "ok" "I will ask first" he says. "ok" "first, are you allergic to anything" "nope" "ok good, now you ask." I think about it. "what's your favorite color" "really you ask what my favorite color is" "yes I've been wanting to know for a while" "ok then it's blue. second questin do you want me to take off my shirt?" "what why would you ask me that!" "I do read your posts on Instagram" "oh, well yes but no" "ok then" he says "when can I have my phone" I ask. "yeah that might be awhile" "ok then". "last questin, what happened to your dad?" I freeze I try to forget about that day. "can we come back to that" "is that your answer or your question" "both" I say and run into my room and lock the door behind me. I go and lay down on my bed. theo knocks on the door "go away!" I yell. "please just tell me what's wrong." he says. "no" I reply. "do you not understand rule 2" "I understand it perfectly fine just some things I want to keep to myself!" "you do realize there will be consequences for this" "whatever" I reply. I spend the rest of the day in my room. I figure there's no key to my room just my bathroom which makes no sense. I wake up in the morning to the smell of bacon and waffles. I get up and unlock the door and slowly walk into the kitchen, I'm kinda scared to face theo. "Morning" he says "morning". I sit down at the table "you know the punishment for yesterday was going to be no food today" "oh" I say and get up and head back to my room but theo stops me. "but I think you need food" I turn around and look at theo "thanks" I say and go back to the table. he walks over and puts two pieces of bacon on my plate and half a waffle. "I honestly didn't think you would come out so I only made enough for me". "oh thanks" I say not sure what to say. after breakfast theo says "how did you even stay in your room all day I meen October 16 was pretty much a waste". "wait" I say "it's October 17" theo nods his head. theo leads me into the living room and just looks at me. "Can I tell you something that I've never told anyone before?" I ask he nods his head. "when I was six me dad lost his job at a bank. he came home that night depressed. the next day I found him on the stairs with a rope, he was about to kill himself but after I say him he locked himself in his office and didn't come out until later that night. he said that I stopped him from killing himself and that he now worked for a construction company. life went like normal until one day in 6th grade I was checked out from school by my nieghbor. she brought me to the hospital and I saw my dad. he had triped and fell ten floors on a store he was building. me and my mom stayed there all day and finally he woke up and I took his hand and he said he loved me then his heart stopped. the day was October 17." I finish talking and look at theo "why haven't you told anybody" he asks me "I didn't want the pity as far as everyone's concerned he just died from natural causes" I start to cry and theo wraps his arms around me. we stay like this for a while before he says anything "you hungry" all I can do is nod. he gets up and starts lunch. once it's ready I eat it in between bursts of tears.
