As soon as I got barbs hand cleaned, and bandaged, she insisted that she had to go home which I didn't blame her for. Nancy literally dragged her to this 'party', only for her to be neglected by her so called best friend.

After she left, I made my way back outside and the sight was actually painful.

Steve, Carol, Tommy and Nancy in the pool. Just like old times. They've literally replaced me.

"Aye! Emmy, come join us" Carol called out, catching Steve's attention.

"Where's barb?" Nancy asked from the pool, wrapped in Steve's arms. Like I once was.

"She went home, 'cause you were being an ass Wheeler" I said, really annoyed as I light a cigarette.

"You know what, your all having fun. And it getting late, I'm just gonna go" I said quickly before walking back into the house.

"Wait, Em" Steve called out running after me, dripping wet.

"What?" I snapped.

"I'm sorry, I know I haven't been the bestest friend lately."

"You know what, you should get back outside, wouldn't want to keep the princess waiting" I smiled before walking back home.

I woke up the next day feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the events that took place last night.

Steve inviting the Wheeler girl.

Steve literally pretending like I didn't exist.

Steve breaking his promise.

Steve replacing me.

On second thought, maybe I'm just being dramatic about the whole situation because I do sound pretty needy and clingy.

I'm not trying to be clingy. I just can't risk losing my best friend over some girl. When I lost my sister and best friend Sarah, Steve was the only one there for me as my dad had problems of his own with my mom.

And to lose him too, I wouldn't be able to handle it. God I'm such a sap, I need to talk to him.

"Pops, can you drop me off today?"

"Sure Baby, hop in the car" he said, whilst tilting his head towards his police car.

"So, you wanna talk about why you were in such a shitty mood last night?" Dad asks, as he starts up the vehicle.

"I was not in a shitty mood, what are you talking about?" I scoffed.

"Emerson"

"It's just Steve, I feel like I'm slowly losing him. And for what? Some girl he just met"

"Have you told Steve how you feel?"

"I want to, but what if I'm just being too dramatic about this whole thing?"

"It doesn't matter how dramatic you are, sweetheart. If something's bothering you, you should always talk to the person about it. Maybe Steve will try to make some time for you."

"That's the thing dad. I don't want his to rearrange his 'schedule' for me. I want him to realise that I feel this way. I don't want to seem needy, dad"

"Listen, you are not going to sound needy. Steve is your best friend. Everyone knows that. You've got to talk to him about this before you completely lose him."

"God, I hate it when your right old man" I said, jokingly as we pull up to Hawkins High.

"Get out brat" he jokes before ruffling my hair.

As soon as I get out of the car, I come face to face with my so called best friend.

"Hey baby" He smiles softly.

"Hi" I say, looking at my shoes.

"I wanted to apologise for yesterday"

"No I should be the one apologising. I overreacted big time"

"No, no, no. You had every right to be mad. I shouldn't have ignored you. I just want you to know that Nancy, she will never be able to replace you"

"Really?"

"Really. You'll always be my favourite girl, hop" he smiled before bringing my into a hug.

"So what the deal with you and Nancy, you together?" I asked, wiggling my eyebrows.

"Yeah. Actually, I asked her to be my girlfriend last night after we made out" he chuckled.

"I'm happy for you Stevie. I really am" I smiled at him.

"Hey, what do you say I come over yours today. I'll bring snacks and we can have a movie night. Just us two?" He asked with a hopeful look in his eyes.

"I'd love that Harrington" I grinned before we both made our way to first period.
