22: Severity

Cade was asleep on the reclining chair and the background beeping of her heart monitor was almost soothing. On top of that, they had dimmed the lights as she complained of nausea, she had also vomited a few hours before so the doctors decided to give her an IV with fluids just so she did not become dehydrated. Eventually they had both drifted off to sleep and for some reason Cade had heard a door open in his subconscious but he zoned it out.

This time, something in him told him to wake up and he opened his eyes to see a blurry nurse standing over Jenna's bed changing her fluids. He saw something flash and he reached over to grab his glasses as he put it on his nose. "What are you giving her?" He asked. The nurse looked at him and Was getting ready to inject a syringe into her IV as Cade blinked the sleepiness away. Something was not right. He had seen all of the nurses and this one was new.

Cade got up to move but he saw something dark before he ducked to move and tackle the nurse to the ground at the same time a small "pop" sounded. They both went crashing as he was struggling with the male nurse, noticing a scar on his right cheek. Cade threw a punch knocking the pistol with a silencer across the floor at the same time a fist knocked into the side of his jaw.

He was caught off guard as the swing connected with his jaw and he almost blacked out but the assailant now had the upper hand as he was moving towards the pistol. Cade saw the fallen syringe and figured that whatever he was giving Jenna could either kill her or poison her. He was chancing it with this guy as he grabbed the improvised weapon, stabbing it on the man's thigh and pressed down. He yelped, thrashing as he hit the IV drip and pipe, ripping the needle out of Jenna's arm, alarming the room. Her blood spurted and Cade didn't think twice as he pushed the button to alert the doctors. He moved to the man who was still fumbling for the gun but moving slowly as whatever effects of the syringe was starting to catch up to him. He made a face before his body started seizing and Cade kicked the gun away as he grabbed for Jenna's arm.

Cade threw his palm over her bleeding cut as he looked for something but just in time, medical personnel entered the room along with security. They took one look at the mess and saw Cade glare at them as he didn't know what to do. Nurses took over and moved him to the side as he rubbed a hand over his cheek and realized there was blood all over his palm. Jenna's blood.

"Eyes Dilated and not responding." Someone said and he moved back and let them do the work as they did whatever they could. Other personnel were working on the seizing assailant and he could only watch in silence at the crazy mess around him. "Sir, do you feel alright?" Someone asked him and he just looked at her as she checked his pupils. Everything else was a blur as his heartbeat raced and he blinked.

One Week Later

"I'm abso-fucking-lutely tired of this shit." Jenna yelled as she felt that enough was enough. Her arm was good to go, they had flushed whatever the assailant tried to give her and he ended up seizing which led to his death. Jenna was lucky she didn't get the full dose of what he was trying to inject into her.

Cade was sitting at the island watching her and so was her family as he thought this might have been
the first time he had ever heard her swear. "I've been shot at, almost kidnapped, and almost killed in what is supposed to be a fucking safe place had Cade not get the guy. Oh and add on top of that I almost bled out and gotten into cardiac arrest. Am I missing something?" She cried to her dad who was taking it all in. Then she turned onto Cade, "And you, you couldn't even let go of your fucking vengeance, so between the two of you, I don't know which part is the reasons they're trying to get rid of me. Being Mr. Big Bad Mafia's daughter or Double Life Hottie's wife." She said. Her chest rose and fell and she glared at the two men. "Because of this shit, you want to revoke MY going to school and expect me
to stay home and be a housewife like mom. Yeah screw that!" She yelled. There was silence as
everything she yelled filled the void and there was no way for her to calm down. No one said anything as Esmeralda moved forward and slapped her daughter on the face.

Jenna held her palm to her face as she glared, tears in her eyes and looked at everyone. She made a thin line with her lips as she gave one last huff before saying, "I hate this fucking family." She then took off and ran upstairs to their bedroom and Cade could only listen as the door slammed shut. He looked to his in-laws and they shrugged as they sighed to him. "She's just childish." Lazarus said and Esmeralda shook her head. "It's true, we have sheltered her all her life. She's never had the chance to be normal." She told Cade and he understood. What he didn't understand was how whoever was behind all of this continued to get away. The attacks were happening more frequently the closer he got to the Giovanni's and he wondered if it meant that he was on the right track. But was his vengeance the cause for her to continue getting caught in the crossfire?

He excused himself once they took their leave and made his way up the stairs to their shared bedroom. Knocking once, he entered to find Jenna on the bed and she didn't bother to look up from the pillow as he sat next to her.

Cade placed a hand on her back and rubbed in small circles as he felt her muscles move under his palm. She turned to look at him and saw her red rimmed eyes and pink cheek. "Are you trying to seduce me?" She asked him sarcastically and he chuckled. "No, but if it's working I'll take it." She moved and turned herself around as she stared at the ceiling. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go off on you like that." She apologized to him and he shook his head.

"No, you're right. It's me and I'm not helping. I've decided to give up my vengeance." He told her and she looked to him. "I can't change the past and neither would my mother want me to continue dwelling on it. Because of it, I've put you in the crossfire so many times and you've gotten hurt on my account. I can't let this continue to happen." He said as he brushed her cheek with the back of his hand. Jenna closed her eyes before blinking them back open. "I need you to be truthful with me. We're partners after all."

Cade agreed with her as he didn't know where to start but he didn't get the chance to. She moved up and he could see her hardened nipples from the outside of her shirt as she asked him, "Is this the part where the make up sex happens?"

He smiled at her as he shifted himself on the bed and opened his palms. "Only if you want to princess." He said as she smiled at him. The nickname he had given her that was meant to probably piss her off had somehow become some form of an endearment and she liked it. "Yes, but I want to try something first." She told him and he raised a brow at her as she moved to turn the newly purchased t.v. that sat on their dresser.

Jenna connected her phone to the monitor as she handed him her cell. He grabbed it and looked at her for instructions as her shy, pink cheeks flashed. "I want to watch porn." She said and Cade made a face at her. "I've never seen it and I want to know what it consists of."

"You're telling me, that you have never seen an adult flick." He asked her incredulously and she nodded, her face even redder. "I was too scared to watch it cause I was sure my dad would know."

Cade nodded his head and pulled up a porn site on the browser and he saw as her eyes grew wide at all the moving pictures and vulgar words that were displayed on the screen. She took her hands to cover her face before she looked at him with those doe wide eyes. "What do you want to watch?" He asked wondering if he should put hardcore bdsm on just to freak her out but he thought against it.

Jenna shrugged her shoulders and looked to him for guidance as he pulled up the categories. He went for something that was more female friendly and clicked on the first one that popped up. It was something along the lines of waking up together and the couple starting off with foreplay. She glanced over to Cade who was watching her and she didn't know what to do as she bit her bottom lip. "Can I?" She asked touching his erection from the outside of his pants and he sucked in a breath. "Go for it."
