"So prom is soon," Gabby said as she sat on my bed arranging old school work to see what to burn and what to keep,

"Are you going?" I asked,

"Yeah, I mean you and I could go together,"

"Cause' our boyfriends suck,"

"Something like that," She laughed and threw her History onto the floor,

"Definitely burning that shít," She said looking at me with determination, I started laughing at her swearing and she frowned,

"You laugh every time I swear," She complained,

"Because when you swear it's funny,"

"I swore in front of my mum the other day," She said throwing more History down into the pile with a disgusted face,

"What did she say?" I laughed,

"She told me Michael is a bad example,"

"He is," I said snickering and throwing some work onto her building pile, she nudged her knee against mine before starting to laugh. This continued for a while before eventually we were standing in front of a small fire burning the stuff we wouldn't ever need again,

"I feel like I'm burning a part of my life," Gabby said, I sighed,

"Me too,"

"Do you know what you're gonna do?"

"No idea, you?"

"I'm going to University to study the Sciences," She said, I looked at her,

"What university?"

"The closest one," She laughed, "I didn't want to go too far,"

"I don't think I want to,"

"Go to University?"

"Yeah,"

"So what are you going to do?"

"Get a job till I figure out what I really want to do," I said shuffling back and forth on my feet,

"You'd be good at writing,"

"Writing what?"

"You've got a good imagination, you could write whatever comes to mind," She said,

"I don't think people want to read my thoughts," I laughed turning away from the fire that had died down,

"I do,"

"Let's go dress shopping. Worry about the future when it's the present," I said making sure the fire was out before walking back into the house with Gabby trailing behind,

"I don't know whether I want long or short,"

"Long would look nice," I began, "But so would short,"

"What should I do?"

"Try both kinds on," I told her,

"I'm so excited," She smiled grabbing her bag and pulling her last shoe on. I smiled and pulled my boot on,

"It'll be good," I said grabbing my car keys and leading her out of the house. She rambled the whole way about how she really wants to wear the colour pink because she was told how good she looked in it once.

"What about you?" She asked as she flipped through a bunch of dresses pulling random faces,

"What about me?"

"What colour?"

"Probably black,"

"Why?"

"It's the colour of my soul," I joked, she looked at me and shook her head,

"What colour would my soul be?" She wondered out loud,

"It wouldn't be one colour it'd be the fucking rainbow," I said walking away from the dresses and towards the suit section.

"Gabs!" I called, she came running over with a sad expression because she hadn't found anything,

"I know you wanted a dress but just try these on," I said handing her some white trousers and a sequinned top,

"Okay," She said unsure and walking into the changing rooms. I continued to look through the racks for a black dress I would wear more than once,

"I like it," Gabby said walking out of the changing room with a smile on her face,

"You look amazing,"

"Really?" She asked shocked, I nodded my head and picked out a black dress,

"What do you think of this?" I asked her,

"Try it on! I'm going to get this so I'm gonna get changed,"

"Okay," I said walking into the changing room next to her to try on the dress. When I put it on I smiled, it looked good and it looked like a dress I could wear more than once.

"What do you think?" I asked twirling a bit,

"I like it,"

"I thought finding a dress would be hard,"

"We didn't know what we wanted when we came in so it was easier cause we didn't have an idea," Gabby said looking at some shoes in the distance,

"Go look at the shoes," I laughed,

"I'll look for you too," She said running over to the stands and checking them all out. I laughed and got changed bringing the dress out with me,

"What about these to add some like colour?" Gabby asked showing me some leopard print heels,

"Leopard print?"

"They're just shoes," She said, I sighed and tried them on considering they were my size,

"I like them," Gabby said,

"I think these for you," I said handing her a pair of beige high heels,

"Will they match?"

"Yeah, your trousers are going to cover most of them anyway,"

"You're right," She said,

"Shall we pay and get food?" I asked,

"Yes! I'm so hungry,"

"I wish the boys could see us and take us," I muttered as we lined up,

"Me too," Gabby sighed.
