Fire. Combustion or burning, in which substances combine chemically with oxygen from the air and typically give out bright light, heat, and smoke. The literal definition of fire means that of heat, of burning. The burning of a substance that results in smoke, heat, flame, and deadly light. When a person thinks of fire they think of that. They don't usually think of the pain, or suffering that comes after. The after effects of such a mundane thing.

For me, I've always had a connection with fire. The way it burned and destroyed everything it came in contact with and the way it brought light and warmth the coldest and darkest days. I never intended for my life to be destroyed by one simple mistake.

That's all it was.

A mistake.

This mistake cost my family their lives. It cost my baby brother his life. Yet it spared mine.  The fire took everything away from me yet I'm still here. I'm alive.

My mother always said 'what's the point of being alive if you're not even living'. To some this is pretty easy to understand. If you are granted the amazing gift of life you can not let it go to waste. You need to spend every waking moment living, breathing, and making mistakes.

However doing exactly that ruined mine.
