Fragile Fire

Chapter 11

Rolling over I feel an arm around me. I look to my left and see Archer. I kiss his cheek and get ready, when I hear the door slam.

"Hello?" I yell and standing in the living room is Kaid.

"Nes? What are you doing here?" 

"I spent the night,"

"Oh, because you're here do you think we could talk?" He asks rubbing his neck.

"Sure, come on." I say and show him to the deck. "What did you want to talk about?"

"First I wanted to say sorry for leaving 3 years ago. Second I just wanted to explain why I left."

"It's okay Kaiden. I know why you left..." I start.

"No," he snaps, "you don't." I've never felt afraid for my own safety before with Kaiden. Now though, I'm terrified.

"Kaid..."I whisper and he must notice my fear because his eyes soften almost immediately. 

"Sorry Nes. You're probably not ready. This can wait." He smiles like the last five minutes never happened. "Let's go inside," he opens the door and leads us in to see Archer standing there. I'm about to walk to him when Kaiden grabs my wrist.

"Kaiden," Archer says.

"Archer, how are you?" He asks hiding the fact that hes squeezing my wrist. 

"Good, how are you?" He asks. I don't register the rest of their conversation, for Kaiden is squeezing too tight. I feel my bones start to rub against each other and shatter. My breath stalls and Kaiden refuses to let go. I try to make eye contact with Archer and when I do he notices how pale I am.

"V?" He asks and Kaiden drops my wrist. I run to Archer holding my wrist to my chest. he sees my red swollen wrist and freaks out. "What the hell happened?"

"I..." I say and Kaiden interupts me.

"She tripped. Right love?" He looks at me and I know. It's him. It's all his fault. I know what to do. I won't let Archer get hurt.

"Yes Kaid. Archer I'm okay." I fake smile, the whole while not breaking eye contact with Kaiden whose smirking.

"Okay. V I'm going to go start the car. Grab whatever you want." Archer says and leaves us alone. As soon as the door shut Kaiden starts clapping. 

"Bravo my love. Well done!" He smirks at me.

"What do you want from me?"

"You. I want you. I love you" He states.

"No you don't." I state. "if you loved me you wouldn't have done this," I hold up my swollen wrist and his eyes darken.

"That love, is your fault"

"I didn't do anything!" I yell.

"uh uh." He motions to the door and puts his finger to his lips. "You refused my love." He admits.

"I never said I didn't love you. I just love him more." I say when Archer walks in.

"Ready, V?" he asks and wraps his arm around my waist pulling me into his side. I nod and we walk out the door leaving a scowling Kaiden in our wake.
