"Oh my god, you asked Wanda on a date; when?"

For the next couple of weeks, Christian was either in his room or in the training room; either way, he was always working on his force fields and seeing how big he could make them. After feeling like he got rejected a few weeks ago, he's been avoiding Wanda, which she's noticed, and she also felt awful about it. She didn't mean to seem like she was rejecting him, but she was honestly so shocked that Christian was asking her out in the first place.

Then he heard a knock on his door. He reluctantly looked up, not sure of who it would be, but a smile broke out onto his face when he saw his dad. "Hey, Dad, what's up?" Christian asked, and then he noticed that his dad was in his uniform, everything but his helmet.

"Just wanted to let you know that we're about to head out," Steve said. They decided only to take the four of them that were in D.C. to deal with Rumlow; they didn't feel the need to get the kids involved; they thought they could wrap it up quickly.

"Be safe, like the rest of the world. I prefer Captain America in one piece, especially because he's my dad," Christian said, which made Steve laugh.

"You got it, buddy. Uncle Tony is here if you need anything." Steve said.

"So now we're being babysat?" Christian asked.

"Well... you are only about 1 and a half," Steve said, and Christian rolled his eyes.

"Technically, but I understand your point. I'll probably just be in here anyway." Christian said, shrugging his shoulders, but Steve noticed it wasn't a full shrug, it was almost depleted, and he could immediately tell something was wrong with his son, so he walked into his room and sat down on the bed.

"What's wrong?" Steve asked.

"What do you mean?" Christian asked, looking at his dad once he sat down.

"Your body language, I can tell something's wrong. What is it?" Steve asked.

"Dad... did you ever have to... you know, handle rejection?" Christian asked; Steve chuckled a little while looking down at the floor, thinking about his life pre-serum and pre-military.

"You know I used to get my ass kicked nearly every day, right?" Steve said, and the boys didn't know, but Katherine was walking by after just saying bye to their daughter, and she heard what Steve said.

"Oh, come on, babe. Watch your language, especially around the kids." Katherine's voice rang from the doorway; both men looked up and laughed while Steve rolled his eyes.

"No one's ever going to let that go," Steve said.

"Not for a while," Katherine said, and then she looked at them. "Ready to go? Nat and Sam just finished loading up." She said.

"Yeah, just give me a couple of minutes," Steve said, and Katherine looked between her husband and son and realized she had just interrupted a moment.

"Oh, sorry, guys." She said. She walked into the room, walked over to Christian, and kissed him on his forehead. "Love you, bubba." She said.

"I love you too, Mom. Be safe." Christian said. Katherine smiled at him before exiting the room, and Christian turned back to his dad. "You did?" He asked, and Steve laughed while nodding his head more.

"Before I joined the military and got injected with the serum, I was just some scrawny kid from Brooklyn who got beat up nearly every day and had no idea how to talk to a woman," Steve said.

"But you got Mom," Christian said, and Steve nodded.

"Yeah, I did... and sometimes I still don't know how, but I'm lucky. In one of the first conversations I had with your mother, I fumbled over my own words and made myself look like an idiot. Then she went away for two years. After the serum and a lot of pep talks from Bucky... your mom came back, and I didn't want to waste any more time." Steve said. Christian nodded his head.
