It was getting darker out by the minute, providing the duo with extra coverage as they headed southwards. There was at least a solid hour of driving before any words were exchanged between them. In fact, Song had almost fallen asleep when Crosshairs spoke up through his radio, "Hey, I'm... I'm sorry about--"
"Yeah," she whispered somberly, "I know. There's nothing we can do now. They're gone... She's gone. It's just the way my life is forever bound to be. Live and lose, then keep moving forward." Her words masked the horrid pain of loss in her heart.
There was another span of silence as they found an area of cover underneath a darkened grove of trees.
"We both need rest," Crosshairs informed her, "I'll be going into stasis lock until morning. I suggest you get some sleep." To encourage her further, he pulled her seat back to make her lie down.
She didn't complain, but she was still slightly concerned about their current circumstances, "So we'll both be unconscious? What if they find us?"
"What choice do we have?"
............."I swear to you, Optimus, I won't let you down. I'll do everything I can to help the Autobot cause, and avenge Jazz." Song stated strongly as she stood before the Prime. Even in her Protoform, she was puny compared to the ancient mech.
"I have no doubt in my mind you will, Song. But I must remind you that any form of power will always come with a cost. Use your new abilities wisely, not for personal gain but rather to help those in need. It's what separates us from the Decepticons."
.............Morning came much quicker than Song would have liked, as she was still in pain from the day before.
In her Protoform, she knelt down next to Crosshairs, who sat up against a large tree. She was doing what she could to pull out the bullets and hooks that were still embedded inside his armor. She then grabbed a hold of the needle-like tube jabbed in his side and yanked it out as cleanly as possible. Even so, a spray of Energon came out with it.
"Gah!" He recoiled at once, clearly in pain and grasping his side.
"Sorry, sorry!" Song put her hands up in defense, still holding the tube, "I'm sorry, Cross!"
"Its-Its fine, just throw that thing away already! I don't want to see it anymore."
Song looked down at the tube. It was completely covered in his Energon. She threw it far into the woods before spotting the puddle it had left in the dirt. Someone could easily track them if they found this.
She covered it over with dust and sand and turned to Crosshairs."We need to go. The longer we stay here the more time we give them to find us... and I doubt they'll go as easy on us a second time," Song suggested.
Crosshairs stood up, "What are you--gah!--talkin' about? We took care of 'em just fine."
"Yeah, and that's why Reina's dead," she said coldly.
Crosshairs went silent, then transformed down into his alt mode, "Get in."
Song did the same, and once back in her human body, stepped into his vehicle form.
After a few minutes of driving, a thought suddenly came across Song's mind, "Hey, you still got that suitcase in here?"
"Yeah, in the backseat."
Song turned to find a large black case behind her and pulled it up front. Opening it, she found a few changes of clothes, some water bottles, fifty dollars, a first aid and hygiene kit, and some packaged food. She had almost forgotten that she'd packed this a month ago, in case they did have to make a quick getaway. It wouldn't get her far, but it would get her somewhere at least.
