Lukas sighed to himself as he continued to whittle a tiny axe, reminiscent of Matthias's favorite weapon. More than anything, Lukas wished to join Mattias and their friend Berwald on their excursions into Europe and more but both of them often said he was much too weak to join them. Lukas was determined to show how strong he was but he wasn't sure how to do it, at least, not until today.
Lukas set his tiny axe down and headed outside of the Longhouse he shared with the other two men, he headed to his garden and began tending to his herbs. Lukas was happy to study witchcraft of course but he wanted to conquer, to be a man. Maybe he would travel West into the ocean while the other two are away and find his own land to conquer and rule, he could finally prove himself to Matthias...and Berwald.
As Lukas finished collecting his herbs he heard what sounded like wailing in the distance, weird. He went inside and set the herbs on the floor before grabbing his two-handed hammer and heading out to find the source of such a sound. Lukas hadn't used his hammer in a long time but it was pretty simple, threatened? Smash them with the hammer. Simple.
"Show yourself!" Lukas shouted as he approached the sound, staring into the woods near the house. He knew the wailing was coming from these trees he just couldn't pinpoint it and he wasn't about to walk into the forest exposed like that.
The wailing sounded like it was from a grown man, was he dangerous? It sounded so weird, a man yelling into the woods was quite strange. Soon, Lukas saw movement in the woods. Hair, blonde, and long too. The man noticed the Norwegian and ran to him, "Sauve-moi!" The man shouted in an unfamiliar language.
"H-Hva?" Lukas shuffled in confusion for a moment as this strange man grabbed his shoulders. He could tell this man was distraught but he wasn't sure how to react, he loosened his grip on his hammer as he tried to think of what to do.
This strange man saw the hammer and became even more distraught, "Les Normands veulent me faire mal!" He cried and shook Lukas until the smaller blonde had dropped his hammer, this situation was growing weirder and more confusing by the minute.
"OI!" A very familiar voice shouted, Lukas grinned at the shout and turned to see Matthias and Berwald walking over a hill. He'd almost forgot about this strange man until he began wailing harder and hid behind Lukas, "Who's that?!" Matthias shouted from the hill.
"I don't know!" Lukas shouted back and he began being shaken again. He grew annoyed and tried to pry the man's hand's off of his shoulders but he gripped tighter, "Ow, let go!" He shouted as nails dug through his clothing.
Lukas knew the man was just scared but Matthias seemed to finally notice him, "C'est un norman!" The man shouted as Matthias approached faster and faster, Berwald followed a little slower.
Quickly Lukas began shaking his head, "He's just frightened, Matthias." He said quickly as he kept trying to get this man's fingers off of his shoulders. He didn't want his fabric to get ripped from the manicured fingernails of the blonde man.
Matthias shook his head, in one fluid moment Lukas had been pulled to him and the other man was shoved to the ground, "That is one of those European weaklings." He said and it was then Lukas realized that this had been his chance and he had failed spectacularly.
Lukas slipped away from Matthias to escape the closeness of his chest and disappointingly grabbed his hammer from the ground, "He grabbed me I thought he needed help." He explained, "Though he did scare me."
Matthias smiled at him before turning to deal with this European. Berwald, gentler than Matthias would have, lead Lukas back into the Longhouse. Lukas picked his herbs up off of the floor and sat on his bed near a side of the Longhouse, he took his knife and began cutting his herbs to prepare them.
"D'n't b' m'd," Berwald spoke as he sat on his bed across from Lukas, Matthias slept at the head. Lukas glanced at Berwald before returning to his preparations, "M'tth's 's j'st c'nc'rn'd." He continued gently.
Lukas nodded idly, he knew Matthias was afraid that he could've gotten hurt but he could handle himself if a situation got violent. Soon Matthias entered the Longhouse with noticeably bruised knuckles, "That guy was named Francis or something." He said as he sat beside Lukas instead of on his bed, "You good, Lukas?"
"Fine," Lukas replied in his usual coldness. He hurriedly tried to finish preparing his herbs but slipped. For a second he didn't feel it but suddenly, he did. He dropped his knife and herb but Matthias grabbed his hands before he could hold it to his chest.
Lukas grew more upset as he watched his thumb bleed, he couldn't even get his herbs in order without hurting himself how did he ever think he could prove himself to Matthias and Berward? Berwald pulled his flask out and dripped some of his alcohol onto the thumb making Lukas hiss, then Matthias wrapped his thumb, "Be more careful, Lukas."
"No I thought I'd be more stupid," Lukas replied sarcastically, pulling his hands away before Matthias could finish, he fixed the wraps himself. Berwald had retreated as he often did when Lukas got upset but Matthias didn't.
"If you're still upset about that guy you shouldn't be," Matthias said and tried to take Lukas's hand again but he pulled away, "Why are you so mad about him anyway? He's the wimpiest of all the European powers."
"Because I-I..." Lukas moved his hands for a second as he struggled to explain, "Because you won't let me do anything, Matthias! What am I supposed to do in this house besides whittle and garden?" He should stop but he didn't want to, he needed to keep talking, "Because I wanted to finally prove myself and you show up and make me look like a damsel in distress. I'm a-a-"
"-I see," Matthias interrupted as Lukas began stuttering again. Lukas glared at Matthias again but he smiled, "Well I guess that...next time Berwald and I leave for Europe you should come to!" He said simply.
Lukas stared at him for a moment before sitting back in wonder. He didn't respond for a noticeable few moments, "I see." He finally said, "Th...ank you?" He wasn't sure how to respond honestly.
Matthias put a hand on his shoulder, "Of course we'll start slow but it must suck to be stuck here so much. Sorry." Lukas stared at him before just nodding again, he had agreed with him so readily. Lukas had never been listened to so bluntly before and couldn't find the words to react, "Welp. Time for sleep!"
Matthias jumped up and pulled Lukas with him, he went to his bed and forced Lukas to lay down too, "What are you doing?" He asked as Matthias pulled his covers over them, "Berwald is watching, you know?"
Matthias shrugged and held Lukas close, "I'll tell you later." He said while closing his eyes, "Also I don't care who's watching." He added, "Go to sleep." Lukas looked up and noticed he had fallen asleep.
Matthias had always been like this, he did things without thinking and never considered consequences. Lukas didn't mind too much, he minded that Berwald could see, but he didn't mind being close to Matthias. So, he went to sleep.
