CHAPTER NINE
all that glitters is not gold▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
𝐒leep did not take her that night, but Aurora also knew sleep would only make everything worse so she was a little relieved. She couldn't get it off her mind, seeing the corpses of the weird family with their heads blown out. Blood splattered against the walls and brain matter was all over the floor. Unluckily for her, she was the one who found them first, and then Kory came after.
After all the shit she did before, she was surprised she still felt shaken up when she saw the gory scene before her. Then again, that was far from normal, and her powers, while dangerous and unpredictable, didn't make that much of a mess.
Aurora lied on the bed until the sun came up. Gar snored next to her, sleeping like he hadn't slept for weeks unlike her. Kory eventually had to wake him up and she told them about Dick's whereabouts, how he was in a safe house of some sort, and that he will reunite with them at the building.
She sighed under her breath as she hauled herself up from the bed, going straight to the bathroom to make herself more presentable than looking like a raccoon inside a garbage bin. Gar raised his brows at her when she finally exited the bathroom. She returned it with a weak glare.
"Took you so long," Gar sighed dramatically, standing up and grabbing her rucksack from her, ruffling her hair after.
"Stop," Aurora mumbled, wrinkling her nose at him as she swatted his hand away from her hair.
He stuck his tongue out at her. "Never."
"Come on, lovebirds," Kory called as she peeked inside their room, slightly smirking when she turned on her heels. "We're leaving."
As the four arrived at their destination, they trudged inside the building, making their way to the place Dick told them about. Everything looked so white and clean. At least the walls were. They waited outside the strange door, the others looking up at the CCTV in the corner above the door, smiling and waving. Aurora glanced at the clear walls on their left and saw a couple of probably really expensive vehicles. She kept quiet the whole time, her eyes on the floor or constantly glancing back at the CCTV.
Then the doors slid open, which was actually an elevator, and they all stepped inside. The elevator let out a faint ding, and it stopped on the highest floor, and Dick greeted them. Her eyes immediately went everywhere as they stepped inside the fancy apartment, studying everything with such curiosity. Then it landed on an unfamiliar boy, standing near the couches with a bottle of brew in his hand, one eyebrow lifted with interest.
"Who are your friends?" He asked.
"Not important," Dick said bluntly.
"Who's he?" Kory asked, raising her brows in the young man's direction.
"Not important," Dick repeated.
He didn't seem to care about their questions, and looked at the teenagers, briefly raising his beer. "Anybody want a brew?"
"Yeah, I do." Gar nodded, but before he could accept his beer, Dick stopped them.
"No, he doesn't," He said firmly. "No one wants a brew."
