CHAPTER THIRTEEN
parting ways is a sweet sorrow▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
𝐍obody spoke a word about what happened in the asylum. It left a tense silence among the members of the group, even Rachel's mother who was ever so kind not to pry. They didn't mention it once, the previous events getting buried past like it was nothing when all of them knew it wasn't.
Besides, none of them knew what to say anyway. Like what do you tell someone who has been tortured, and poked around with needles like a lab rat? Sometimes words cannot simply explain what we feel, and perhaps that was the problem━nobody was sure about what they were feeling.
It was the next day, and Gar never left Aurora's side ever since. He fell asleep in her room last night, sat uncomfortably on a swivel chair, and trust me, his limbs ached a lot when he woke up from his slumber. He groaned quietly, stretching his arms and legs, his eyes landing on the red-haired girl sleeping soundlessly on the bed.
It made him smile a little, and he leaned forward, gently moving the piece of hair that covered her face. His hand suddenly stopped, a frown taking upon his face. Aurora was flinching in her sleep, and her face twitched like she was in pain. He rushed beside her and gently started waking her up.
"Rory," He said quietly. His heart raced a little, not liking the way she looked like she was suffering through something really painful. "Rory, wake up."
With one last shake of her shoulder, Aurora shot up from the bed. Her breathing was ragged, and her blue eyes were wide open like she'd been shot. She looked around frantically, and she only calmed down when she realized Gar was still there. He never left at all. She let out a quiet breath of relief.
"Gar." Her lips quivered, and she tackled him into a hug. "I'm sorry."
He frowned, snaking his arms around her waist. A little confused. "Why are you apologizing?"
"I..." Aurora almost choked on her words. Flashes of horrid nightmares appear in her mind. She couldn't forget it. They were mostly about losing him. "N-nothing. I just..."
Gar pulled her off him and looked at her face, still holding her waist. "Talk to me."
"Don't leave me," She said quietly, and his eyes softened.
"I won't. I'm not going anywhere."
"Promise?"
Gar brought out his pinky finger. "Promise."
"Not ever?" She carefully laced her pinky finger around his. Just like old times.
He smiled adoringly at her. "Not ever."
Gar eventually left the room to go to the kitchen, claiming he was hungry and would cry if he didn't get any food into his stomach any longer. Aurora ended up curling back into her bed, the boy throwing a blanket over her, almost hesitating to leave for a second. Surprisingly, he found none other than Rachel in the kitchen, humming while cooking something. Gar yawned as he walked over to her.
"Rach?" He called, which made Rachel let out a startled gasp as she slightly jumped back in surprise, almost dropping the spatula she held.
