Standing a short distance in front of me was the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. I didn't even know it was possible, but she had only gotten more alluring over time. I couldn't help but stare at her. Luckily, she wasn't even paying attention. She was busy ignoring the whistles and comments from the guys around her and warming up. She seemed lost in her own little world. I've always loved that about her. She didn't take crap from anyone. She was the independent Elle Evans. She didn't fall at anyone's feet, and it drove everyone crazy. All of the boys here at Harvard are going to be all over her.
All of this means that she was accepted into Harvard and nobody told me. I call home every week, but NOBODY said anything. Lee hasn't talked to me very much since Elle and I broke up so I didn't expect any updates from him. I guess she also didn't want me to know. I didn't even know she was applying. I always figured she would stay close to home in sunny LA. Since her mom was gone, she was always the one to help with her little brother Brad and her widowed dad Mike. She also loved the warm weather. Boston just didn't seem like the kind of place for an exuberant girl like Elle.
She stood before me in her tiny black practice uniform. Her hair was up in a tight little pony tail and she wore black knee high soccer socks with tiny little black cleats. I had almost forgotten how tiny she was. She has definitely been working out lately. Her uniform left little to the imagination. She had toned abs and shoulders. Damn, she is hot today. There are so many adjectives to describe Elle, but I can't seem to find one appropriate enough today. Her sexy California tan didn't go unnoticed. While I enjoy the sight, I also wanted to wrap her in a towel. I don't really want the other guys lusting for her. Unfortunately, this isn't high school. I have no influence here. It looks like I'm going to be in for a super long year.
I must've been staring a little too long because it prompted a lot of laughs from Josh. "Dude, put your tongue back in your mouth." I can't even think of a reply right now. I can't even form a coherent thought let alone a sentence.
With a smirk Josh says "She's pretty hot huh?"
The only thing I can manage to say is "She's so much more than that." Of course she is. She's the kind of girl that gets attention despite not wanting it. She's always had trouble connecting with other girls because of it. I guess that's part of the reason she clung to Lee. Lee allows her to be who she is. She doesn't have to pretend to be something she's not. She doesn't have to compete for anything. I've always envied their relationship. It seems completely and utterly effortless and simple. Their weird rules kept them in line. I don't actually know what they all are. I only know for sure that there are 18, but they've told me that there are more. Rule #2 has something to do with divulging personal information to other people. Rule #9 is that relatives of your best friend are off limits. Obviously, we broke rule #9 and possibly #10. I know that Elle probably regrets that now.
"Maybe you should put on your Flynn charm and talk to her?"
"She looks busy, maybe later." Oh god. Talk to her? How in the hell am I supposed to do that? I don't even know what to say to her. I don't even know if she would want to. I doubt she will even give me the time of day. In the last 8 months she hasn't returned a phone call or a text. I tried to face time a few times with no answer. I even tried to message her on Facebook. Unfortunately, that only led to me getting deleted. It really sucks to be back on the outside looking in.
"Since when has that ever stopped you? You've literally talked to 80% of the girls on campus and have taken more than half of them back to the dorm. Why is she any different?" What an exaggeration, thanks Josh.
Should I tell him? He knows all about Elle. He knows about our breakup. He knows why she stands out. I kind of just want to admire her in peace without all of the drama. It won't last very long, but it's exactly what I need right now. I could seriously just watch her all day. Its something I used to do all the time, even while we were together. She's always so full of life. Everything about her is inviting.
