I sat down by The Shadow. For the first few minutes he said absolutely nothing, while I picked at my "fish sticks". I was just about to speak when he muttered something.

"What?" I asked him.

"Hey. My names John, if you were wondering. Just don't tell anyone."

He looked at me, and I swear he blushed a little.

"Well, my names Emily, if you were wondering." I held my hand out for him to shake. He looked at it for a second, and then took it and shook it gently.

"What's that?" He asked, looking at my plate.

"What the cafeteria calls fish sticks." I tops him.

"That looks absolutely disgusting." he said, making a face,

"Here, have this." He handed me half of his sandwich. It looked amazing.

He must have read my mind.

"Just take it. It's roast beef and gruyère on a baguette."

I looked at him. He took my hand from my side and put the sandwich in it. Then he stood up, took my plate, and threw it away for me. He sat back down and started eating his kiwi.

"Did you make that sandwich?" I asked him.

"Yeah, why?" he looked at me, a little confused.

"You're the best cook in this entire school. Possibly in this town." I told him.

He looked down and blushed.

"I'm not that good." he looked at me,

"You want the other half? I'm not hungry" he nudged the other half of the sandwich towards me.

"Dude, I can't eat that. I'm way too full."

I told him.

"Then we'll split it" He took the sandwich and carefully split it in two. He gave the biggest half to me and he started eating the smaller half.

"Your the nicest person I've ever met" he said.

"How so?" I asked him.

"You talked to me. You actually ate lunch with me. You're the only person who would ever do that. You...." He looked away,

"You gave me a friend."
