I was watching TV in my bedroom when Callie came into the house. She went right up the stairs and into my room. She did not look happy, and I knew exactly why. I wanted to apologize for the video. I wanted to explain that my brainwashing was still affecting me, even a week later. But before I could say anything, Callie exploded.
"Marie, I HATE YOU!" she yelled.
I was taken aback by her voice. I almost never hear Callie yell so loudly.
"YOU POST THAT FAKE VIDEO AND ACT LIKE IT'S ALL FINE! IT MIGHT BE FINE FOR YOU BUT DID YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD MEAN FOR ME!?!?
"Callie, I was just about to say sorry," I said.
"NO, YOU WEREN'T! YOU DON'T FEEL BAD AT ALL! YOU ACTED LIKE IT WAS NORMAL. YOU THOUGHT IT WOULDN'T CAUSE ANY DAMAGE! WELL, IT DID! PEOPLE THINK I'M A CRIMINAL AND A MURDERER! MY MANAGER DROPPED MY CONTRACT AND NOW I'M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE MONEY! I'M SUPRISED THE POLICE AREN'T AFTER ME! AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!
"Callie, I'm sorry, the effects of the brainwashing haven't worn off yet," I said.
"BULLCRAP! I'VE BEEN FINE FOR DAYS AND YOU HAVEN'T SHOWN ANY SIGNS OF BRAINWASHING SINCE THE DAY WE ESCAPED!"
"You only had those shades on for a minute, I had mine on overnight," I explained.
"WELL MAYBE IF YOU ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT ME YOU WOULD'VE TRIED TO FIGHT YOUR URGES!
"Cal, I do ca-"
"DON'T 'CAL' ME! YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID AND YOU JUST WANT TO COVER IT UP SO I'LL FORGIVE YOU! THEN YOU'LL DO IT AGAIN!
"Callie, I won't do it again, I'll make sure I don't!"
"NO, I'M DONE WITH THIS. I'M DONE WITH YOU. I'M DONE WITH THE SQUID SISTERS!
"You don't mean that, Cal."
"YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE MEANT IT WHEN YOU SAID IT, BUT I DEFINITELY MEAN IT!
And with that, Callie took out her earrings and threw them on the floor. They bounced a few times before rolling to my feet. Then Callie stormed out of the house, slamming the door shut. I looked down at the earrings. They might not seem very important, but they are. We got those for our first performance as the Squid Sisters, and we've worn them ever since. But now Callie's lay in front of me. We've had arguments before, and I have no doubt that we've threatened to break up the Squid Sisters before, but it's never happened. Not until now. Callie was done, and those earrings prove it. I picked them up and looked at them.
I've lost Callie, and all because of that stupid video.
