Hawk and Sparrow: Reprise

The hawk and the sparrow

Circling so well

Tightly entwined

Cast protective

Nurturing and enduring

So close and powerful

With a quiet caw,

Split

The sparrow

A separate way goes

Free from the tyranny of the hawk

A ruthless rule

Of empty promises

And tired hopes

Confining in its absence

Wings are not meant to be clipped

Freedom is always a given

She flies away

Free from the scam

The trap so lovingly crafted

The bond she forged

Broken

The hawk

Proud, aloof, and full of power

Stands unbowed, unbroken

But his cries are solo

He rests alone in his domain

Sad to see her go

But accepting that she had

Grown out of him

She was more

Than he could ask

To hold

She was enough

To be her own keeper

To have her own world

Together they learned to fly

And so

He

Let

Her

Slip away

Free at last
