Life was seemingly returning to normal.

Marvel's venom finally came in and ceased hurting him. Tim and Bruce were still trying to find an antidote for it but was having trouble, his venom was different and very similar to most venomous animals.

Speaking of returning to normal, there was school. This was his third day back and he couldn't be happier to arrive at the brick building many of his classmates called hell. He loved how school was his only constant thing in his life besides Nova, Charlie, and his family. He liked crime-fighting but he knew if his father found out that it would get taken away from him and that was something he couldn't have.

Walking into school he goes to his locker and gets out his book for his first class of the day; chemistry. Hugging the book close to his chest he shuts his locker and goes to find his friends only to run into Damian. "Marvel. I'm glad to see that you are doing well..."

Marvel could tell that the glad was forced but at least he was trying. It was a small step in the right direction for Damian. "Thanks, Damian."

The blue-haired boy goes to walk away and Damian grabs his wrist pulling him back to where he was standing, "I wasn't finished."

Marvel pulls his hand away and Damian continues, "Greyson has informed me that you were thinking about joining the basketball team. You should think about it, we could use someone like you on the team."

"If I were to try out, I want to get on the team without using my abilities." Marvel says putting his foot down. If he was going to get on the team he wanted to do it his way and not cheat.

Damian let Marvel leave after that. Marvel looked at the time and headed to the chemistry room to find that his friends were there waiting for him. "Hey, where've you been?"

"I just had a run-in with Damian..." Marvel replies as he sets his book down on the desk and the sits down in the chair, letting his bookbag sit on the ground next to him.

"Oh no!" Charlie exclaims sarcastically, "What did the prince of darkness want?"

"He wanted me to join the basketball team." Marvel tells his friends with a little uncertainty playing out in his voice. Hearing it come out of his own mouth made it sound less real and more like something his brain conjured up.

The two turn around in their desks and look at him with their mouths wide open. They were just as shocked as he was. "Are you going to do it?" Nova asks a little excitedly, he wanted to see his boyfriend all hot and sweaty in a basketball uniform.

"Obviously he's not...I mean what if his powers get in the way?" Charlie interjects, a matter of fact tone in her voice. Everything about her statement just rubbed Marvel the wrong way and he wanted to prove her wrong. That he could do it, with or without his abilities.

Nova's face begins to fall a little as he turns around but if quickly changes when he hears Marvel say, "Yeah I think I am going to try out."

Charlie's facial expression changes as she whips her head back to look at Marvel's face to see if he was joking but when she saw that he wasn't she turned around and but her nose in her book. Nova was about to say something but he was interrupted by a person walking through the door, going straight to the chalkboard and writing their name.

Mr. Barkley.

The man turns to face the class and draws in a breath of air before he speaks to the class, "Hello children, my name is Mr. Barkley. I'll be substituting for Mrs. Larson. I'll be starting off with roll call."

As the substitute teacher went through the list of names, Marvel couldn't help but watch him. He felt like there something wrong with this guy. His gut was screaming at him. Mr. Barkley went through the list and when he got to the end he says, "Marvel Todd."
