Lucy called Lockwood on the clients phone. She checked her watch while the phone rung in her ear.
12:26 A.M.
Lucy was tired, cold, hungry, and most of all, in need of a hug. She just hadn't been feeling her best lately. Maybe it was due to the lack of contact with her friends. Or maybe she just needed a break from work. Ether way, she wasn't feeling great.
The phone rang for a few more moments before someone finally picked up back at home.
"This is Anthony Lockwood from Lockwood & Co. agency. What seems to be haunting you?" He asked in his normal Lockwood-type chat.
"It's me Lockwood." Lucy held back a yawn. "I'm calling from a clients phone. I'm just gonna say I'll be a bit late coming home. Leave some snacks for me."
"Sure thing Luce. You sound tired... Do you want me to take this case up for you?" He offered.
"No, I'm fine. Why would you ask?" She pondered softly.
"It's not good to work when you're tired. You could fall asleep on the job and... Well, I don't need to finish that sentence. You know what happens." He muttered.
Lucy shook her head in confusion. Was it just her, or was Lockwood acting really weird as of late?
"I should call a cab now, so I can hopefully get home before sunrise." She yawned.
"Okay, Luce. There are sandwiches on the table. Stay safe. I love you." And with that, he hung up the phone. Lucy stared at the phone, wondering if she heard right.

Lockwood stood, staring at the phone.
I love you.
Did he actually say that? Now what would Lucy think about him? How could he let that slip out? That must feel so weird to have your boss tell you that...
Well now what? George and Holly were out on cases. Who the hell would he talk to to get advice?
He could call Kipps... He was free.
Good God NO!
Never in a million years would he ask Kipps for advice on what to say to Lucy.
Lockwood paced a few laps around the kitchen, losing track of time, and soon enough, Lucy was home.
She immediately headed for the the kitchen where the sandwiches were. After taking two bites, she noticed Lockwood standing there, slightly red faced. With tiered and sleepiness clouding her mind, she set her sandwich down and walked over to Lockwood. Before he could say anything, she fell into his arms and wrapped her own arms around him. Confused Lockwood held Lucy in his arms, wondering what was going on.
"I stood there for 10 minutes at least wondering what the hell you had just said to me. So I want to make sure you said what I thought you said." She nuzzled her face into his chest.
"What did you think I said?" He hoped it wasn't what he actually said.
"I thought you said you loved me."
"... Well..." He chuckled nervelessly. "That is what I said... I understand if you don't love me."
She looked up at him.
"You are so oblivious it's almost painful." She laughed. "I love you too." She laid her head back on his chest and closed her eyes. Before Lockwood could register what had just happened, she had fallen asleep in his arms. He sighed, picked her up bridal style and carried her to her room. He set her down on her bed and covered her with her warm, fluffy blankets. She loved soft and warm things.
Lockwood, seeing how peaceful she was, lifted up the covers and snuggled up against her. He softly kissed the top of her head.
"Good night Love." He muttered before letting sleep over take him.
