DAPHNE DIXON ALWAYS CONSIDERED HERSELF TO BE A DEAD GIRL WALKING. But for the first time in a while, she stopped. She never thought the day would come. And even at her young age, she never considered she'd survive either.
The one good thing Daphne did often was hide. It was the best thing to do when the world you once knew fell apart. So, Daphne would run, find a place to scavenge for a few days and stay there for a week or so. It was a miracle that she'd survived this by herself.
To be fair, she wasn't alone at first. No, she started this world out with her mother and sister at first. But then — everything with that went to shit when she had to put both of them down when they'd gotten bit.
After that, she'd gotten through the woods and found her old house and found that her father, Daryl and his siblings, Merle and Dannie were inhabiting it for a few days. Since then, she'd stayed with them.
But then, they got separated again when the dead ones had invaded the store they were scavenging. And Daphne got separated from her family and remained alone again. She found her place in the woods, taking whatever her Uncle Merle taught her to survive on her own and using it to her advantage.
I mean, thank God she was prepared in a way, right?
It had been almost six months after everything had happened and just when Daphne thought everyone was gone and the voices in her head seemed to be her only friends now — a miracle ensued.
Two women, a blonde white woman and a black woman with a stone cold face found her in a store when she was scavenging for food.
Knowing people in this world weren't to be trusted, she tried running off but the blonde woman had assured that they were harmless and by proving it, the blonde woman gave Daphne a blade. Daphne noted to the genuine concern that the blonde woman had for the young girl and for a while, only spoke in two word sentences until she could learn to fully trust the women.
It had now been a couple of months since the two survivors — that Daphne had later found out were names Andrea and Michonne, had found the young girl in the store.
Since then, Daphne had set herself out on a search to find her family. She knew that they could take care of themselves and they had to be out there. And even though it was bad to have false hope, especially in a world, such as this one, she just felt it in her bones that they were still alive. Something just told her that they were okay, they were surviving.
Daphne had spoken to the women about the fact that she believed her family was still alive and that she intended to find them until the very end. Andrea had been willing to want to help, but Michonne, she hardly said words to Andrea enough as it was. It was hard to believe she wanted any part of it all. Considering this was merely a naive child, carrying on false hope that her family was alive.
