I smile again flipping pages through again. I was looking for the most recent year. The last year I wrote in this book.13/08/2016.
I think I finally take back what I said about me liking Gaius as more than a best friend because I don't really want him much as something else than my best friend. He didn't show any interest in liking me as a girl ever since my little outburst on this forsaken diary so I probably shouldn't because as silly as it sounds, it might destroy our friendship. Gaius is getting along with friends in his class now and he doesn't look like a loner anymore. It is making me feel jealous but atleast he still finds time to talk to me and we still hangout on the holidays when he comes to my house. I had gotten so used to his presence now. I felt like he was a piece in my life and I am sure he did too.
Enough Gaius talk, I am making friends with that stuck up girl with a pale face;she isn't as bad as I thought and she really distracted me when Gaius started acting distant. From last week if I could remember, I asked Gaius if he could come over so we would complete our assigment but he said he was busy. I asked him why but he pretended he didn't here me say it.I stopped there. I skipped and read only a few details of the next and opened a blank page, I skipped backwards until I saw my last letter of the diary. My hand writing was rough and the page looked crumpled.
23/03/16
Gaius told me he was leaving. He was travelling abroad to London to stay with his aunt and his dad had arranged it. And he couldn't tell me about it earlier?? What a stupid friend. I am his best friend for crying out loud! Did he just forget about me. He didn't even show any remorse when he came to my house with his bitter news. He just stood there with an unidentified expression and went back to his house. And I am petrified! I am never going to see him again and he didn't even let us spend our last days together happily. I guess this is the end of our friendship. Why did I even trust him enough to be my best friend? He is just a stupid boy who I will never see again and I better get used to that fact.
Oh why am I crying so much?he is probably happily travelling away from all his troubles and me.3 years ago.
Last day.last letter finished.I patted the old diary in my hands and sighed. So much memories flooding back into my brain.
I checked my time it had just been twenty minutes though my back hurt like a bitch.
"Good evening, Mrs Williams." I greeted Fola's mom who stared me down for a minute squinting her two beady eyes.
"Gina is it?"
"Béèni Mà (yes ma'am) " I smiled.
"Welcome to our humble abode, Gina. I'll discuss about your yoruba language to your mom. Its improving unlike my daughter's" she sighed and smiled at me.
Folake's fluency was better than mine but her mother was a pusher sometimes I think she's trying to rub the fact that her daughter is better than me. I try my had best not to think of it that way.
"Mom, can I have my friend now?" Folake interrupted her mom who was rambling words I wasn't even listening to but shaking my head to show my contribution.
Fola was wearing a sweatpants and a coloured top. She didnt even hide the disinterest in her face and she was holding a tub of ice cream in her left hand.
Her mother sighed.
"Oh sorry girls, I probably took a bit of your time, it's just been long since I have had that talk with you, Ginny.
"Exactly mom she understands."
Okay?"
Huh
She turned to face me.
"Didn't you?"
I nodded my head rashly in agreement.
Before her mother could say another word, I was dragged upstairs by my best friend.
We were chuckling when we finally reached her room.
"Mom would spend the whole day there with you my foolish friend, would be stuck with a woman you rather not be polite with." She eyed me.
I threw the nearest pillow on her face.
"Duh."
She hissed.
I picked up the second tub of ice cream on her table. My spot.
"You know Gina....I fear for me real bad. I looked at her sulken face and felt sad.
"He asked for sex, girl. I told him no and he said he didn't want an immature kid. Then I slapped his motherfucking face."
"Twice."
My mouth was draped open at the reality of what she said. I couldn't believe the audacity of that guy.
And I knew how my best friend felt right now. She was angry with her self probably for ever seeing herself with him. She was disgusted and irritated that she kissed him in the hallways. All the regret was showing on her face all at once.
"You know if you quit being so hard on your self, I might learn from you." I said taking a big scoop out of her icecream.
I made myself comfortable and lay on her bed giving her the silence she needed. We weren't always there for each other. She just needed to think things through and she will be done with another miserable fail of high school romance.
I busted out laughing all of a sudden then I turned to see my best friend's guarded expression on her face. She wasn't even swayed at my outburst and sat still like a mannequin and if she was, she was trying her best not to show it.
All this seemed so funny at the moment, I couldn't stifle another laughter and then it turned into a fit of giggles then full blown laughter.
Fola joined halfway because I could hear her contagious chickens- crowing laugh. We both ended up laughing like two idiots until our tummies hurt and I accidentally fell off the bed.
"The clouds look really nice today don't you think, Ginny?" She said lying backwards to me. I peeked at her open window which was above us. Her house was so modern because of her stylish architect of a father.
So she could see the sky and the sky which was creepily starry today.
"No, they look the same."
"You are no fun."
A violent shaking bolted me from my dream.
I stood up with shock and looked sideways at the disturbance. A quiet chick was beside me and laughing her sides off.
Funny.
I drifted back to sleep after giving her the middle finger.
My mom is so going to kill me.
