                                                                                       Alessia

"I am so unbelievably bored. There's nothing to do," Alessia complained to Elijah.

"I mean- yeah. You're right, there's nothing," Elijah said.

Charlie rolled his eyes. "There's stuff to do,"

Elijah scoffed. "Like what?"

"Like... like..." he thought. "Yeah, never mind." He said as he flipped the page in his magazine.

"I think I'm gonna go see Nick- to see what he and everyone else is doing," Elijah said, making Alessia roll her eyes.

She smirked. "Sure,"

"Please go to the main living room for an urgent message," The intercom spoke. Everyone rolled their eyes and made their way to the living room.

"What do you mean we're going to be under here longer than you expected?" April asked Miss Roan.

"The storm is a level ten. We can't go back up for weeks,"

"But, our families," A boy called out.

"Yeah, we can't even contact them," A girl said.

"I understand that you are all worried, but there is nothing we could do," Mr. Cameron stated.

Everyone was upset and annoyed. It was getting beyond boring underground. Alessia went to Elijah's room after he told her to meet him there.

"We need to find that portal," he said.

"Where? We don't even know where to look,"

"Mom left a map in the book. I don't know how, but it just appeared. They must have used some sort of strong magic to make it only appear now,"

"A map?" she asked as she pulled the map out of his hand. "Holy shit."

"It wasn't there before, you saw the whole book, now there it is,"

"This is insane. It's right here, literally a fifteen-minute walk from here," She smiled until realization dawned on her. "The acid rain."

"I didn't even think about that,"

"Why would it appear now if it was just going to get destroyed?"

"Wait," Elijah smiled. "There's a cave by Marson street. It's locked, but what if we could use our powers to get through and the portals in there, look." He pointed to the bump on the circled part of the map.

Daisy smiled. "You're right,"

James came running into the room. "Guys!"

Elijah tilted his head to the side. "What's wrong?"

"It's Zoe. I-I don't know- she's sick, please help me," he said, obviously panicked.

They rushed to her room, seeing her laying on the bed, looking paler than ever. Her naturally dark skin was nearly white.

Alessia swallowed the lump in her throat. "Zoe?"

"He-hey," she managed to smile weakly.

"Hey, love, We're gonna get you help, okay?"

"Oka-okay-" she was cut off by herself vomiting up blood. She began choking, and Alessia didn't hesitate to turn her on her side to prevent that. She continued throwing up violently.

"Go get the doctor! Now!" Alessia yelled. Elijah ran out as James held his head and began to cry. "It's okay, Zo, it's gonna be okay." Alessia soothed, however, when she looked up at Alessia, Zoe knew that she wasn't.

"Ja-James," The helpless girl called. James went over to her, holding her hand. "I-I love you,"

He cried. "I love you too," Alessia closed her eyes for a moment, feeling her heartbreak for them. Exceptions could sense when humans were close to death, and she was just about already dead.

Zoe's eyes began to flutter as she fought to keep them open. In another moment, she stopped squirming, and laid completely still, her eyes open in slits. Alessia took a deep breath and moved her hands over Zoe's eyes, closing them. James sobbed, not letting go of her.

"Wash your hands and get out of there, I'm almost there with the doctor," She heard Elijah tell her through their minds. It quickly registered that she was an Exception, and her identity couldn't be found out.

"Okay, James? James, hun," she rubbed his back. He looked up at her, tears in his eyes. She hated that she needed to be selfish and leave him. "I need to go. They can't find out what I am- I'm sorry." She frowned.

"I-It's okay. I won't tell them you were here," he said, understanding.

Alessia kissed his wet cheek. "I love you, okay?" she attempted to smile.

"I love you too," he cried. She nodded and ran out of the room, tears stinging her eyes. Eventually, she got to her own door, wiping a hand on her ruined shirt before entering. Growing angry, she tore her clothes off and threw them in the trash.

So angry and upset. Why couldn't Zoe make it with them? How would James get past this? Everything was so screwed up and there was absolutely nothing she could do.

She got into the shower and sat there, just thinking. The only sounds that could be heard was the water hitting the tiles. She sat there until the shower automatically turned off to save water.
