The custom-painted VW camper van drove off into the distance as we found ourselves stranded in the Scottish countryside. I looked back at the coal-haired girl, whose name I still didn't know, and she looked down at her shoes. The Mexicans started talking in a language I don't understand, so I was alienated from everyone but her. She walked up to me and awkwardly smiled.
"Um, AmazingPhil, right?" she said, shyly.
"Yeah!" I paused. "Well, not anymore. It's just Phil now."
"Sorry about Dan. I know how much he meant to you and everyone who watched him."
I instantly broke into tears and she put her hand on my back. Then this thing came from nowhere.
"You were always my favourite," she said, staring into my eyes. Then she kissed me. Hard. On the lips.
So... that happened.
"I'm Jane by the way," the girl said as she looked at my confused face.
"Um, I appreciate the, uh, affection, but... Sorry I just... don't think this is right."
"Oh."
Oh.
We managed to get picked up by a guy in a Mini. Jane and I were pushed up together and had to share a seat. It was very awkward. It seemed almost like the kind of situation Dan would get into. We were dropped off at Glasgow train station and I caught the first train to London. On my long journey, I texted Chris to ask if I could stay and he said he couldn't offer me any room. PJ was the same so I was left with no option but to return to the old apartment. Jane says goodbye and goes off to stay with her sister, who lives a few roads down from there.
I walk through the door, past the broken light, up the stairs, round the corner and into Dan's room. I lay down on the bed and fall asleep in tears.
