32 - Goodbye yellow brick road

As many of you might already have guessed, even though I may not look like it, I am one of the biggest members of the musical trash community you'll ever meet in your entire life. And I don't just mean simply knowing all the songs. I mean like knowing all the songs in a week, knowing all of the obc, trying to do the dancing part, even though I'll eventually fall in thin air in some of the easiest steps. That crazy.

Yet, there's one which somehow captures my attention, not because of the songs, but because of the importance it has in film history, and that is The Wizard of Oz. Even though Wicked is by far my favorite musical (because... Idina Menzel), I can't put aside the fact that one movie musical revolutionized film history, providing both good sound quality, legendary songs and above everything, a wonderful amount of color.

Another point that always amazed me, now in terms of storytelling, was the analogy made with the yellow brick road. The thought of one single path leading to the most wonderful place you could possibly picture in your mind, always made my little brain turn head over heels with just the small chance of that ever happening to me.

And at the moment of my life I was in, it felt like it wouldn't take me long to reach my own Emerald City. Sure, I was getting one or two B's, but I still had a GPA of 3.75 and I had a 1557, so I was feeling good with my chances.

So much so that, instead of completely ignoring the damn thing for the rest of my life, I delivered the form and the money to the senior trip. Patty came along with me just to confirm that I wouldn't be a coward and quit on the last minute. It was for the best I guess...

Adam and I had also put that stupid past incident behind us and "The Gang" (because unfortunately the name stuck) was now better and even stupider than ever. Thomas, Adam and I found a mutual love for memes, and now lunches in the bleachers were basically me explaining to them why Reddit is better than the stupidity of Instagram. Ben and Patty were constantly face-palming. There were also some cool discussions like "If you had a superpower what would it be?" or "What if we were an actual gang? What position would you like to take?" or even "If you still believed in Santa Claus, what would you write in your letter for him?". We never really talked about colleges and what would happen next year to every single one of us, but we all had some sort of idea about each other's possible paths.

From what I've gathered, Adam wanted to be a Physics Engineer and his parents really wanted him to go to an Ivy League college but he had his mind set on CalTech or Stanford.

Thomas was an interesting case. He is full of surprises, I give you that. Even though he's not entirely sure yet, he had his mind set on some designing masters in universities in our state.

Ben also wanted to follow something related to science, but more to the chemistry and biology side, which is basically the definition of worst thing ever to me. He had applied to the same universities as Adam so they're the most likely to get stuck in a small apartment with each other's smell of sweat out of the gang. Lucky them...

Patty had already received her admission to FIT, so she's leaving this place in no time to become the next Chanel. She always treated her Barbie dolls so nicely with all those little clothes and protecting them from the force of nature that I was back then, that it would only was a matter of time before she got herself towards the next step on talking over the world... of fashion at least.

And just so we're clear about the doll part, no, I did not cut their hair. I would simply take out the head and limbs and replace it to different places. Then I would spin it around to see when would the head pop out again. Fortunately for the sake of our friendship, I only did that with my own dolls. I did try brushing their hair once. Needless to say, it did not go well.
