A WEEK LATER

Ari
I woke up to the sun shining brightly in my face. It wasn't the worst way to wake up.

I fell asleep late last night, I couldn't seem to get Dustin off of my mind. He was so sweet and hilarious. Over the last week, we hung out a lot. I learned he had a strange obsession with chocolate pudding and played a ton of arcade games with him. Out of the party, he was one of my favorite people.

After eating breakfast and getting ready, I biked to the school. Dustin and Mike were already sitting at a picnic table.

"Hey!" Mike said, far too cheerfully for early morning.

I greeted the two with a quick smile and sat down.

"You okay?" Dustin asked me, concern written over his face.

He was so caring. Wait, do I have a crush on Dustin? I can't have a crush on my brothers best friend.

"Yeah, just didn't sleep well," I answered while twisting the ring on my finger.

After we made small talk, the rest of the party, as Mike called them, arrived and sat at our table.

Ellie sat beside me and I couldn't help but notice the look Mike was giving her. They liked each other or were dating. I should ask her about it later.

Max sat on my other side. I haven't talked to Max much, but she seems nice. Maybe I should hang out with just her and Ellie, like a girls day.

Eventually, the bell rang and all of us slowly walked inside. I didn't have any classes with anyone and that was really upsetting. Although in my class, I made a few friends, it was nothing like the party.

The class seemed to drag on for forever. All I wanted was to go back to Mikes and hang out with everyone.

Dustin
Sadly, Ari didn't have any classes with us so I was bored for most of our classes. Even science, my favorite class of all time, seemed boring without her.

I really liked her. It was like I was drawn to her for some reason. Her gorgeous blue eyes made me feel like I was in a trance. I could barely even look at her without falling for her even more.

I was snapped out of my daze by the bell ringing and signaling the end of the longest school day of my life.

As we were walking outside, I pulled Mike aside and talked to him.

"Hey, uh, would you kill me if I, maybe, ask out your sister?" I asked, awkwardly.

I looked up, expecting Mike to be passed at me. But instead, I saw him grinning like a mad man.

"Finally! I've been waiting all week for you to man up and ask her out!" Mike said, almost yelling.

I punched him in the arm to shut up, if Ari overheard us, I'd be so embarrassed.

"Dude! Shut up, I don't want her hearing you!" I said quickly. He nodded but didn't stop smiling. I rolled my eyes at him.

"C' mon, let's go, we can talk about you and my sister later," Mike said, pulling my arm as we ran outside to join the others.

Mike

I was so excited! Dustin was going to ask out my sister, finally! We met up with the rest of the party and went to the arcade.

I saw that Dustin pulled Ari aside. I nudged El and gestured to the two.

"Called it," I whispered to her. She chuckled.

I saw Ari and Dustin smile and the two came back to the group.

Dustin

After we had been hanging out in the arcade, I pulled Ari aside to talk to her.

"What's up?" She asked me, curiosity beaming in her beautiful blue eyes.

"Um, Do you, maybe, want to go out on, like, a date, or something?" I stuttered out, "or we don't have too, you know, it's okay." I continued.

God, I was horrible at this.

"I'd love too, Dustin," Ari said, with a huge smile on her face.

Yes! She said yes!!

"How about next weekend?" I asked her.

"Saturday?" She asked me.

"Sure! I'll be at your place by 12!" I responded. I couldn't keep the smile off my face.

Hole crap! I ASKED HER OUT!!

I walked over to the rest of the party and saw Mike and El whispering about us. I chuckled. As we walked over to see the party surrounding Max as she played a game. I linked my fingers with Ari's and smiled as she squeezed my hand.

We spent another few hours playing games and challenging one another. Ari and I played DDR. She beat me by 10 points. I played Max and Lucas a few times and beat them.

I walked with Mike and El to Mikes house. Everyone else had to go home or do something and Mike wanted to talk about me and Ari.

El kept asking me about where I was going to take Ari on our date and giving me different ideas.

I think I was going to take her to the mall and then we could get ice cream. Steve was working there and I could ask him to get us a table without any people.

I left after having dinner with Mike and El. I walked to Steve's house and knocked on his door. A girl with long hair opened it.

"Who are you?" I asked her.

"Ava, I'm guessing you're Dustin?" She responded. She called out for Steve and he took her place in the doorway.

"Hey kid, what's up?" He asked me, leaning on the door.

"How do I ask a girl to be my girlfriend?" I said awkwardly.

"Well, this girl must be pretty special," He began, chuckling, "you just have to speak from the heart and tell her how you feel." He said.

"Thanks Steve! You're the best!" I said before running back to my house.

I quickly greeted my mom and went into my room. I practiced how I would ask her to be my girlfriend a few times and went to bed.

I was so excited for tomorrow. I hope Ari says yes. I feel asleep with Ari on my mind.
