"So are you gonna move out of the apartment?" Mama asked as she tore a piece of bread."I'm gonna have too, I can't stand being around her," I rolled my eyes as I looked at Carmen who sat a few seats away from us.
"You're gonna do great things. I can see it now baby," she dug into her huge salad bowl and smiled.
"Thank you ma," I felt my lips rise forming a smile.
"You're excited about this solo thing?" She raised an eyebrow, looking over to me.
"Very. I'm finishing a project I been working on. It's something I started before Rico passed. Even though it's my old work it deserves to be heard and I can't throw it away,"
"That's right. I can't wait to hear it Zay. And I been thinking about what you asked me yesterday. I know I said no but it was just me being scared. That shit can ruin our relationship and it took us forever to get to this point so," she shook her head and sighed deeply.
"Don't worry about it, I got it all figured out," I reassured her, even though I didn't have anything figured out.
I just didn't need her stressing about it. It's the last thing she needs to do.
"Tryce, what's your intentions with my daughter?" Ma raised her eyebrow and bit food off her fork.
"Oh, um we're just friends. I don't have any intent to hurt her. Just like how strong and independent she is," I smiled at his words, I hope he was being honest and not just saying that for my mama.
He seemed too good to be true.
"I like you," she pointed her fork at him and smirked. "Got a good head on your shoulders,"
"Thank you," he looked over to me and smiled real big.
I smiled back at him but it faded away rather quickly.
