The sound of the heart monitor echoed into a silent room. I watched my mother lay in her bed sound asleep, it was relieving to me. She wasn't in perfect condition but she was alive, and that was more than enough for me.
I just looked down at my hands as I thought about my father. I didn't know what was gonna happen with him, doctors were doing everything they could. But I haven't heard anything since we got him to the hospital.
My head was rested on Tryce's shoulder, his fingertips massaging the skin on my bare arm.
"Here's yo' food," Jakari stood in front of me with a bag of Ma-N-Pop in his hand. I lied and told him I wasn't really hungry but he insisted.
"Thank you," I looked up at him, his eyes seemed to be talking to me but I couldn't make out anything. He quickly looked away and made his way to his seat.
"You welcome," he said opening up his bag, pulling his food out making me do the same.
"You want some?" I looked over to Tryce who was damn near sleeping on me.
"Huh? Nah baby, I'm good eat yo food," he licked his lips and fixed himself in the chair, turning away from me as he folded his arms and closed his eyes. "I'll get sum' later on,"
"Suit yourself," I shrugged my shoulders and got comfortable enough to begin eating.
"Mm," My mother groaned from her bed, she tossed and turned in her sleep.
I crossed my legs and opened up my box, Jakari doesn't know me at all. But it's cool, I'm down to try new shit.
And I was actually hungry so anything to help my empty stomach. I started with the macaroni and cheese. It was bubbly and crisp on the top, the cheese stretching as I pulled it towards my mouth.
I moaned at how warm it felt in my mouth. Noticing Jakari eyeballing my from my side view. "What? Quit watching me eat weirdo,"
"My bad," he chuckled and picked up a buffalo wing. "Yo' eye twitch when you chew,"
"So?" I rolled my eyes. "Both yo' eyes gone be twitchin', if you keep looking at me,"
"I'll make something else tw-,"
