The bright rays of sunlight beamed through the windows and onto my face , causing my eyes to flutter open greeting the early morning. Squinting , I look to the left of my cluttered room to try and figure out the time.
6:40 am
Sighing , I lay back down on my bed and bury my face in the soft , fluffy pillows in an attempt to go back to bed and forget about what day it is today.
The long awaited , first day of school.
Let me rephrase that , the first day of a completely new high school in a completely different state with strangers I have never met before that will probably judge me as soon as they see me. Gossiping and rumors with unwanted petty drama that occurs almost every day.
Taking a deep breath in and exhaling a deep breath out , I force my legs to slide of the bed to face a mirror and glance at myself.
My once messy bun has flopped over my face , bags under my eyes from getting no sleep last night , my over sized T-shirt wrinkled from trying to change positions in my bed. Despite looking like the wicked witch from the west I tell myself:
"Come on Evelyn , get your act together. This is a fresh start at a new school for your chance to turn over a new leaf. Keep your head down low and mind your own business. This year focus on your grades and not drama"
After my self motivational speech , I jump in the shower to wash the past away and prepare myself for the day ahead.
Quickly hopping out the shower, I get dressed in blue ripped jeans with a cute red bodysuit that really compliments my olive skin tone , apply a thin layer of concealer to cover those bags and a layer of mascara to bring out my brown eyes. to top things off I add my favorite lip gloss and a cute necklace to boost my confidence.
Brushing my long brown locks whilst taking one last look in the mirror, I run down the stairs to be greeted by the smell of sausages and bacon and the glum faces of the people that are my parents.
"Honey , do not forget that today I would like you to focus on your classes and not on other people. By the end of this month I expect an all A* report and if not there will be consequences , do you understand young lady" My mum says as she hands me my plate of food.
"yes mum , I understand" I idly respond
My parents have always been strict with me when it comes to school , especially my mother. As an only child they have super high expectations for me with them being business women and men. That means no friends over unless we are studying , no going out unless there is a purpose , having exceptionally good grades so they can brag about them to their friends and lastly always making them proud in everything that I do.
Not even one slip up would be tolerated.
The pressure really gets to me sometimes but i trey to brush it off and try my hardest in everything that I do.
"Hurry along now you do not want to be late for your first day and make a bad impression on the teachers." my dad states.
Dumping my plate in the sink , I rush to the front door and put my sneakers on and sling my backpack around my shoulder and head out of the house.
My car awaits me in the driveway as I leave the house. My parents thought it would be a good idea to give me a car so they don't have to drop me anywhere themselves. I mean I'm not complaining.
The drive takes about 15 minutes if I am lucky and have no traffic which isn't too bad.
Approaching the school , the butterflies in my stomach begin to fly and the nervousness kicks in.This year I am entering senior year , my last year of high school , so I really need to get my head down and focus with no distractions.
Walking to the enormous building that is said to be one of the best schools in Arizona , I am relieved to say that the school is practically empty except for early comers like me.
What was my dad saying about being late again?
In an attempt to follow the map of the school , I make my way to what I think is the reception to receive my schedule when I stop in my tracks to the fairly strong smell of paint.
Ditching the idea to go to the reception , I follow the smell.
It leads me down a very long corridor with lockers on either side but no sign of paint.Taking an abrupt left turn, I make contact with a very hard object and fall to ground. If this was some cheesy romantic movie , I would look up and make eye contact with a breath taking-ly gorgeous male.
But to my surprise it is a girl who has bright yellow bleached hair with bangs covering her large eyes. Her outfit consisting of a black bomber jacket with splutters of paint all over it , a white crop top with the word YOLO printed in bold on it paired with ripped shorts.
Her pale hands that are covered in paint and an excessive amount of rings , reaches out in front of my face.
"Watch where you're going man" She says in shockingly happy manner with a huge smile plastered on her face.
"Uhh ... S-sorry I was not paying attention" I stuttered.
"That's cool" The unknown girl said as I took her hand and stood up " The names Violet but you can call me Vi"
"My name is Evelyn " I responded
"Your new around here aren't you"
"Yeah , just moved from Oregon"
"Well You seem fun and in need of a friend so you can hang out with me then"
Taken aback by her straight forward manner I let out a little laugh "Sure I guess"
After that we both received my schedule, whilst I was still trying to brush the dust off of my backside, and I asked her a few questions about what she was doing with the paint but she just simply just winked at me and put her index finger to her lips.
What a character.
We later discovered we both have English and Calculus together and promised to meet each other at break and lunch as the first period I have is Math.
Just as I was about to open my mouth to say something , the hallways started to fill with people and the bell rang indicating the warning bell.
Oh well here goes nothing . Time to start over.
