Three days, that was all it took to exhaust the two knuckleheads that were supposed to be my protectors. All night I kept them up crying in pain because of my bloody wing and all day I kept them active asking question about the character on my arm. I made sure to get my own sleep in the time I knew that they were working on their own things. I also had learned a new trick, one I kept secret from Philip and Wendy. I stood in front of the bathroom mirror and concentrated hard on the muscles in my back. Slowly there came a cracking and snapping sound as my black wing began to fold in on itself and tuck itself into the slit in my back from which it came from. I turned to look at my back and was amazed by how much it simply disappeared. Beside from the large scar it was like it was never there to begin with. I pulled on my grey hoodie and slipped out the door. Just as I had planned, Philip and Wendy were fast asleep on the hotel room beds. They wouldn't be up for hours, I had made sure of that by slipping some melatonin into their drinks. I walked with caution as I slowly opened the hotel room door and stepped out into the hallway.
It was pitch black outside and the streets were empty but I didn't much care. I had been locked in that room for over a week and was incredibly thankful to be able to walk about and stretch my legs. Despite that I didn't care to waste much time as I started walking down the empty streets and back towards my home. My plan was to be back in a few hours but first I had to get some things.
"She left alone." The red eyed angel standing next to Ava stated. Her name was Riley and she was about a foot shorter than Ava and had freckled skin and long dark brown hair. The two stood together in the darkness of a nearby rooftop watching the small blonde teenager as she turned the street corner.
"Do you have a plan?" Riley asked.
"She seems gullible." Ava stated. "Lets see if we can manipulate the situation." The brunette smiled at the idea as she took flight and cascaded down the streets towards Akira. Ava followed shortly behind, beaming to herself at how easy this job was.
I was surprised by how close my house was to the hotel. I made it there in less than ten minutes and quickly unlocked the door as I slipped inside. The room was still a wreck with bullet holes in the wall, broken glass on the floor, and overturned furniture everywhere. I clicked my tongue in annoyance knowing that eventually I would have to clean all this stuff up. For now I ignored the mess and went upstairs to my bedroom which was seemingly untouched. Inside I headed to my bed and reached underneath to grab a wooden box at the back of the bed. I pulled the box out and unlatched the lid, marveling at the collection I kept inside. A wide variety of knives and daggers were laid out neatly on a cotton towel in the box. I immediately reached for a large silver switchblade with a serrated edge. I also grabbed a handmade black belt which Maddy had made for me. The belt had a series of pockets and notches specially designed to hold and conceal daggers. I picked out some throwing knives and packed them away in the small belt before slipping it on under my shirt. I also grabbed two special needle point knives. These were special because the needle tip was filled with a super strong sedative that could knock a person out in seconds. I wasn't planning to use magic to kill Zanders. I was going to use these knives, the things I knew best. I smiled to myself as I put the rest of the stuff away and shoved the box under the bed. Downstairs I got my book bag off the kitchen counter and took out the boomerang knife. I also took out my grey jacket from before, the blood from the demon boy had soaked into the fabric and left a large stain. Taking one of my knives I cut a square of bloody fabric out of the jacket and shoved it in my pocket. Wendy had told me earlier that things like demon blood and angel feathers had special protective properties so I thought the blood may come in handy later down the road.
I exited my house, making sure to lock the door behind me, and started walking back towards the hotel. I was walking pretty quickly as I wanted to make sure I got back before they woke up. I turned a corn and ran head first into someone, falling backwards from the impact.
