Chapter Twenty Three; Life of Bliss
"Push Maggie push!" Mrs. Ricket screamed at her daughter as the doctors focused on the baby. Honestly I was just feeling mixed with sickness, joy and love. Maybe I was too young to be in this roo-
"YEOW!" I screamed as Maggie's hand gripped mine so tightly I thought it might fall of from the lack of blood circulation.
"Oh suck it up and be a man John." Mrs. Ricket yelled at me as she took the pain from Maggie's other hand as it clomped down on hers with razor sharp teeth pricking into the skin, oh sorry that was her nails. I smiled slightly at Mrs. Ricket and tried to withstand the pain Maggie was sending although out my hand.
"I can see the head! One last push Maggie!" The doctor yelled.
"Oh shut up, it's all push, push, push! Do you think I don't know that?! UAHHHH!" Maggie screamed then and I felt my hand coming off ever so slowly... And then all of a sudden it stopped, all the pain in my hand was gone and all that was left was the presence of Maggie's hand on mine. I looked around the room to see the Doctor's bringing our child into the world covered in blood and Maggie breathing heavily with sweat dripping down her face as she looked from me with loving eyes to our child with a look that said she had finally accomplished what she had to do in life, and that she was ready to go. I didn't understand the look, I didn't get why it was there, but I didn't like it, at all.
Trying to distract myself on what was going on with our child I looked away from that look in Maggie's green eyes to see our child all wrapped up in a white blanket with gray stripes.
"Congratulations, it's a girl. We'll come back in a little bit to take her to the nursery area. Oh and Maggie you'll have to stay here for at least three days okay?" Dr. Aspers said as he waved goodbye to us and headed out the door and back to his station.
"I'll go tell the others the good news and give you guys some bonding time with your new child." Mrs. Ricket said as she let go of Maggie's hand, tears dribbling down her eyes. We waited until the door had closed and Mrs. Ricket had disappeared before we looked at each other once again.
"She's beautiful." I said as I sat down in the chair beside Maggie's bed and reached out my hand to touch our daughter's forehead.
"She has your hair color." Maggie whispered as she held onto our daughter's small hand, her hand seeming ten times bigger than our daughter's. Her small hands were so cute; her pale skin and dark lashes that stood out all of it made my heart glow.
"Should we name her now, or later?" I asked taking my hand back and placing it on top of Maggie's. Maggie with her green eyes and dark brown hair looked down at our daughter with love and brushed her cheek lightly with her thumb.
"How about, Mailey?" Maggie whispered, I looked at our daughter as she finally opened her eyes to reveal brown eyes, disappointing that they weren't green, I loved Maggie's green eyes...
"I like that name." I said, kissing Maggie on the cheek. I pulled back to see tears well up in her eyes and one escape before she brushed them away with the back of her hand.
"What about the middle name?" Maggie went on, I smiled with pain inside of my chest, there was something with Maggie and she wasn't going to tell me what it was. I used the back of my hand to brush off her tears that continued despite her protest to let them out.
"What do you think of Nami?" I asked brushing back Maggie's sweaty hair that had come loose from her ponytail.
"That sounds Japanese, but...it's cute. I like it, Mailey Nami Quinn." Maggie muttered as she turned to look at me once again, her eyes shining with warmth. My heart stuttered again but I refused to listen to it as I leaned in to kiss her.
