Today is Andy's garden party at Shrute Farms. I have no clue where some of the things are on the map that Dwight made, so I looked up directions on Google.
I applied my makeup and put on a "Connecticut Casual" dress, as per Andy's dress code.
(This dress with a black cardigan)
I got in my car and was on my way. The whole time I wondered what Robert would think of my dress. Would he like the way I look? Why would I care? He's married. This is ridiculous, trying to impress a married man.
I pulled up to the party and a strange man walked towards my car.
"I'm the valet. You have to give me your car," he said handing me what looked like a seed.
I got out of my car and watched as he sped down the dirt road. I just hope he didn't crash my car. I walked into the entrance and walked up to a very formally dressed Dwight.
As I walked past him, he screamed, "Ms. (Y/N) (L/N)!".
I smiled at everyone before they turned their heads back to what they were previously doing.
I wandered aimlessly around the party. Yes, I knew my co-workers but they were all busy talking to someone. I don't like to bud into people's conversations.
All of a sudden I heard Dwight yell while rolling his r's, "Ladies and gentlemen, may I present, R-R-Robert Califor-r-r-rnia!".
I looked in that direction and saw Robert in a blue dress shirt. He looked very nice in it. He walked towards Andy and they talked for a minute, before sitting down at a table with his parents.
I sat at a table with Erin, Kelly, and some other girl. They were talking about gossip when Andy started making toasts. Everyone started toasting Robert and Andy got angry. Robert eventually got up to say some words.
He began, "You people say I led you. But it wasn't me. You want to toast the man who led you to success. But the boss is irrelevant. Andy and I produce nothing. We do nothing. We sit in our offices and demand, 'I want this and that, right now,' like petulant children. You know the difference between a crying baby and a manager? One day, the baby will grow up.".
I laughed at this. Robert's eyes met mine and he smiled at me. I smiled back and then he continued, "But without you, Andy and I would be sitting in our dirty diapers, waiting for someone to change us, wipe us. I should be toasting you, thanking you for allowing me to have the easiest job in the universe. Cheers.".
He rose his glass and we all replied with "Cheers.".
Then Gabe tried to make a toast dedicated to Robert California but Andy had shut it down by singing a song. Which ended up turning into a mess and Andy was completely cut from the song by his brother and father.
Nearing the end of the party, Ryan and Gabe gave Robert their jackets. Eventually, he warmed up and gave them back to him.
I looked at Robert as I was about to leave, but we made eye contact and he called me over to him. I walked over to him and felt nervous.
"Hello, Robert. How are you today?" I greeted him.
"I'm doing just fine. How about you, (Y/N)?" he smiled as he put his hand on my shoulder.
He has his hand on my shoulder again. This always feels nice. Especially since it is chilly out and I didn't think to bring a warm jacket.
I shook from my nerves but mostly the cold, "I'm a little cold but it's my fault, I forgot to bring a jacket," I laughed.
Robert chuckled and took his hand from my shoulder, "Walk with me then, maybe you will warm up.".
He held his arm out for me to take and we began to meander around Shrute Farms.
I can't believe I'm walking around with Robert California right now! God, he's so... hot. Wait...
did I seriously think that again? He's married! I can't be thinking that.We still walked in silence yet it wasn't awkward, which was a first for me. We saw where Dwight's valet had parked all of the cars. Some of the cars were parked really close together. I wonder how he got out.
"One moment, I'll be right back, (Y/N)," he said as he went into what I was assuming was his car.
He came back shortly after, "If you'd still like to accompany me on a walk and if you're still cold, I brought you my jacket.".
I felt butterflies in my stomach and I smiled, "Of course I would and thank you very much, Robert.".
"Anytime," he smiled as he slid the jacket over my shoulders.
Robert California just put his jacket on me. This can't be real. Wow. My head wouldn't let me believe this.
I turned my head and breathed in the jacket's scent. I couldn't help it. It smelt of cologne with a faint hint of whiskey.
We walked some more throughout the farmland, talking about life and what it has brought us to. All good times must end though, the only cars left were ours and it was only getting colder by the second.
"Well Robert, this has been very fun but it's getting cold and you don't have another jacket. Besides that, it's getting a little late," I said shivering.
"Yes, of course. I'll walk you to your car," he smiled at me.
We walked to my car and I opened the door.
"Thank you for the walk and the jacket. I had a lovely time talking with you," I handed him the jacket.
"The pleasure is all mine, (Y/N)," he said as he took my hand and brought it up to his lips.
My face had grown hot and I felt butterflies in my stomach.
"G-goodbye," I merely mumbled trying to keep myself together.
He let go of my hand and chuckled, "Goodbye, (Y/N).".
I shut my car door and waved to him before I started my journey home. Then I looked down at my hand and smiled. He kissed my hand.
