The couple of days I spent with Robert were amazing. We had so much fun just being together. But on the flight back, I had asked him if he thought anything of our relationship. He didn't give me a straight answer and I got a little angry with him. I haven't talked to him since then. He's tried to contact me but I've ignored him. It hurt me too much.
I was talking on the phone when I heard Robert open the conference room door. Of course, my call ended. I knew he would try to call me into the conference room, so I ran into the kitchen. I made some tea and then leaned against the counter.
"(Y/N), is everything alright?" Oscar asked as he walked into the kitchen.
"I'm fine," I said as a tear dropped down my cheek.
"Aw, hun, sit down," he motioned to the table, "Tell me what's wrong.".
I told him about everything that had happened with Robert. I couldn't help it. I knew Dwight wasn't good with feelings and I had no one else to tell.
"You need to confront him again. Obviously, he's trying to contact you and tell you his side."
"I think I need a little more time though," I wiped my tears, "I don't know what I'd say.".
"It'll come to you when you're ready," he handed me a paper with his number on it, "If you need to talk again, here's my number. I have to get back to work now.".
I smiled, "Thank you.".
He smiled back and then walked back into the office.
I sat there for a few more moments, then I grabbed my mug and opened the door.
"Let's try this. Everyone, tonight, my house, wear a swimsuit. Let's just call it a get-together. And let's say no food," Robert said and then immediately left.
Did I have to go? Oscar said I needed to confront him. I guess it wouldn't hurt.
Kevin taunted Oscar and I sat down at my desk. The day flew by too fast and before I knew it, it was time to leave. And then again, time flew and it was time to go to Robert's.
I drove up to the house and parked. I guess everyone was already here. I got out of my car and caught Jim just in time.
"Hey, wait up. I don't want to get lost by myself," I laughed as I jogged to him.
Jim and I made our way to the pool area. I made my way to the back of the group and Jim took a picture with Robert.
"That's beautiful. I'm gonna email that to you," I overheard Jim say.
"I'm just about to give the tour."
"Alright," Jim said quickly.
They talked back and forth and then the group started to walk. I followed along, standing by Oscar.
We walked into a room, "Here we have the parlor," Robert said.
He made some speech about the room and then Oscar found the wine collection. Robert told us all to take a bottle. I grabbed one and then he saw me.
"(Y/N), I didn't even see you."
I looked to Oscar and then back to Robert, "Yes, I've just been tagging along. Thank you for the wine.".
He nodded and smiled sadly. He kept looking at me so I looked down.
Oscar thanked him and Robert stopped looking at me. Then he began to tour again while beckoning Jim to see the next room.
We made it to the kitchen and Robert was talking about mutton and then a vegan.
"To the kitchen," Oscar toasted.
We all drank to that. I looked up and saw Robert looking at me again.
He slapped his hands against the counter, "Onward," and started walking to the next room.
We all followed and I still tried to stay in the back. We got to the next room and we toasted to the bearskin rug. The bears wasted that made it.
Then we made our way to the screening room. Robert talked about the films he bought and watched.
"I mean, it's clearly meant for watching erotic cinema," Ryan said.
Then Gabe started, "Yeah. We could watch some right now if you want. I got a Korean film on my iPod if you wanna just— if you have the cables."
He stopped talking when Robert only stared. Eventually, we made our way back to the pool area. I made sure to walk away from Robert. I sat in a chair near Meredith and Jim went to talk to her.
I was chatting with Oscar and then I saw Robert taking his clothes off. What the hell is he doing?
"This is no get-together, this is a party," he said as he removed his pants and jumped into the pool.
I ran out of the room and sat down in the parlor. I knew I was too drunk to drive home. I drank a whole bottle of wine and some more from Oscar's bottle.
I laid down for a minute and I felt sleep overtake my body.
I woke up to a hand on my back.
"(Y/N), wake up," I heard Robert say.
I sat up, "Robert, I'm sorry. I'll go now."
I went to stand up but he stopped me. Good thing too. I realized it was dark.
"No, it's fine. Ryan and Gabe are getting dressed. I have a robe on now. We need to talk."
I hesitated to speak, "Why? Why didn't you answer me on the flight?"
He put his hand on mine, "I sincerely apologize for that. I didn't know what to say at the time. I didn't want to be moving too fast. I am just- very attracted to you."
There was a moment of silence and then he began again.
"I was going to ask you to be my girlfriend. But I didn't know if you thought of us as anything more than friends with benefits."
I hugged him, "I thought the same thing. I didn't know. I'm sorry."
He hugged me back and then pulled away.
"It's okay. I do have a question for you now though. Will you be mine?"
I kissed his cheek, "Yes, I will."
The light turned on and I turned to see Gabe and Ryan standing there.
Robert smiled at me, "Okay. Dance time," he grabbed my hand and then his bottle of wine.
I was dragged along by Robert into one of the rooms, with Gabe and Ryan following along. He just asked me to be his girlfriend. I hope I'm not dreaming.
Robert turned on some music and began dancing. He pulled me close to him and we danced together. Ryan and Gabe began dancing too.
After a short while, I could tell Robert was tired. He started dancing slower.
"I need a breather," he laid down on a chair and pulled me in his lap. I pushed the back of the chair down.
"You two keep going," Robert said half asleep.
I got comfortable and felt Robert's arms embrace me. I snuggled into him and drifted asleep, happily.
