Christy's POV
I sighed, as I walked into Ms. Eves office, praying she wouldn't fire me after the stunt I pulled the other day, and not showing up days later.
"Good morning ma'am," I greeted.
"Ms. Good heart, what do you want?" She asked in that very cold voice of hers, without even replying my greetings.
"If you came here to gaze, then maybe you should try somewhere else, I'm very busy." She said dismissively.
"No ma, I'm sorry, I came to apologise for the other day and for not showing up at work, please, I didn't mean to stay away from work."
"Okay, I've listened to your apology, you go now," Ms. Eves said and got up to leave.
"Does that mean I have my work back?" I asked hopefully.
"What work? Did you think we would leave your post vacant? There are a lot of hungry people around Christy so we can't just stop work because a black girl decided not to show up. Haven't you heard the saying that when you were born, your replacement was already born?" She concluded and walked out.
"Ah! Ma! Biko, please, I can't be out of a job right now, please," I pleaded as I followed her out.
"Not my problem,"
"Madam Eves, I beg you please," I pleaded from the depth of my heart. I couldn't afford to be jobless right now,
"I'd call security on you if you don't leave," she said looking at me through her glasses.
*******
I turned over the next page of the business newspaper I had in my hands. I had to look for something to do to make a little money. I looked up at the wall clock that hug on the wall and it was almost six thirty. I can't believe I've been on this for almost four hours now. When I left the restaurant, I went looking for vacancies around and I didn't see any, then I decided to try the papers, so far this is the fourth and nothing!
I rubbed my forehead lightly letting out a little sigh escape my lips. My stomach rumbled a little and I just hissed. I got and went to the kitchen to fix myself dinner.
The revving of a motor drive up to my gate got my attention. I looked out of the window and saw a black Ford parked outside. I looked closely to see who the owner is, my brows furrowed and my mouth opened in shock as I saw who came out.
Mr. Wright!
What the hell is he doing here? I left the kitchen and went to the sitting room to prepare for a knock.
Ding dong
Ding dong
I opened the door.
"Hey," He greeted.
"What are you doing here?" I asked holding the door.
"Aren't you going to let me in?"
"Not until I know why you are here."
"Okay, I just wanted to know how you are doing,"
How I'm doing? Great! Just great! I've lost my job and soon my house would be the next thing to go, so I think I'm doing soo well...
"You've seen how I'm doing, you can go now."
"That's not just why I'm here," he said and made his way pass me into the house.
"Your house is cute tho," he said and made his way towards my desk.
"Henrik don't walk around like you own this place, what else do you want?" I asked as I made my way towards my desk trying to hide the newspaper I was going through, to prevent him from knowing about my job hunt."
"I can see we have the same thoughts," He said putting his hands into his pocket and giving me a smirk.
"Meaning?"
"Meaning that, it's obvious you are out of job and looking for another so, I've come to give you one," He said still having that smirk on his face like he's certain I'd jump upandan because he has offered me job.
"No,"
"Excuse me?"
"What? Are you deaf ni? I said no," I said and snatched the newspaper off my desk and folding it away.
"What do you mean no? You don't want the job?" He asked like it was so unbelievable.
"Henrik Wright, did I have water in my mouth?" I asked with a folded arm and an arched eyebrows.
"But, Christiana you need a job and-"
"I have already said no what the hell is wrong with you? Did I do a bad thing in working for you? Ò gíní? What is it? Can't I have my own life? Eh, I'm looking for job so? Sooo?" Now I was getting angry, like who asked me to go work for this guy in the first place? It was through him I met Killian who almost raped me and now because of him I've lost the job I was managing, as in are my village people after me?
"Whoa, Christiana calm down, I just feel responsible for your being jobless, I mean if I didn't keep you in my house-"
"If you didn't kidnap me, point of correction,"
"Yes, that, you would still be with a job, I know I didn't treat you right when you worked with me but I promise to treat you better," He concluded his speech with a hint of plea laced in his voice. For real?
"Why do you want me back? I thought you had hired a secretary of your choice? Since your father's was wrong eh?" I asked putting one hand on my hip while the other on the desk.
"Um... actually, I... did employ a few but they just couldn't do the work well." He said avoiding eye contact with me.
"Ehe? So that's why you are here, right? Well, Mister, I'm sorry-"
"I'll give you a raise, please just come back to working for me please," He begged, now that got me; not the begging part I mean who cares if he's begging, the raise part got me.
"You would give me a raise?"
"Yeah, sure not just that-"
"You know what? Sure, I'd come work for you but on a condition," I said cutting whatever he wanted to say short
"Isn't the raise, condition enough?" He asked.
"No, it is not, I'd get my lawyer to have you sign a few documents," I said folding my arms and looking at him daringly.
"A lawyer?" He asked baffled.
"What? Surprised I got a lawyer? Honey, 'all the good girls have join them,' I said and slapped him on his shoulder lightly before walking over to the door to open it for him.
"I'll call you when I will sir, have a nice day." I concluded.
"I'd be waiting for the call, Ms. Good heart," he said and left. I closed the door and watched him go into his car and zoom off through the window before I started dancing my victory dance. Better days ahead I hope.
Happy August y'all, I apologise if it's too short, pls leave your comments and vote, thanky.
