Laying on my back and staring at the ceiling, a million and three thoughts were running through my head. I couldn't understand why I always had these thoughts late at night but never during the day.
I look over to see Julie sound asleep. Her body was turned over as her face was near mine. Her hand was under her pillow, having some sort of support for the pillow.
Rubbing my eyes, I sat up and look over at the clock next to the bed. In bright red colors, it showed that it was a little after three in the morning.
"Fuck." I mumbled.
Here we go again.
Not sure why I'm always awake at this time, but it's been happening for a while now. I haven't told Julie, in fear that she'll just worry about it. I'm sure it's nothing so I pay no attention to it, but it's hard since it happens often enough.
I splashed water onto my face in the bathroom sink. I wasn't sure on what methods I should try because I'm not even sure if this is insomnia or not.
I go to sleep just fine, but wake up at weird hours of the night for no reason. I usually stay up for a while then go back to sleep, but most of the time I don't even go back to sleep.
Pulling the covers over my body, I snuggled up to Julie and gently kissed her forehead. She stirred a little then breathed out before wrapping her arm around me and pulling me close.
I stayed in that position for as long as I could until I finally drifted off to sleep.
-
"How many cups does that make it now? Four?" My dad said across the kitchen as I was pouring myself another cup of coffee.
Looking over at him, I smiled then poured the milk in plus the sugar before mixing it together. I turned towards him, leaning against the counter and took a long, slow sip.
Feeling the hot liquid run down my throat, I instanly felt so much better now.
I sat down at the table and saw my dad watching my every move. Sitting the cup down, I smiled at him. "How are you?"
He nods. "I'm good. I'm just wondering how you are."
Sighing, I stared at the table. "I'm good."
I look up to see his eyebrow raised as he was watching me. "That didn't sound like a genuine 'good'."
"I'm good. I promise." I smiled.
He watched me for a moment then shook his head and turned his attention to his paper.
I come over to hang out with my dad when Julie has to work and Milly is in school. I hate the thought of staying by myself at the house and since I haven't found a job yet, because they never get back with me, I'm stuck in the some routine everyday.
"Find any jobs?"
Shaking my head, I took another sip of coffee. "I found this mechanic shop up in town that I'm going to check out today."
"Mechanic?" His eyebrow rose.
Nodding, I watched him. "Yep. If not that then a stripper."
He watches me until he shakes his head. "Why not find something you know how to do."
"A mechanic isn't that hard to learn, dad. I'll be taught how to do things anyways."
He flipped a page then looks at me. "But why a mechanic?"
I shrugged. "The only thing around here that doesn't require being behind a counter or desk."
"Best paying job, sweetie."
Leaning back in the chair, I crossed my arms then sigh. "I don't know then."
"Why not let Sydney help you? She has connections with some of the companies in the city."
Looking at him, I sigh. "But I don't want to work somewhere that requires me to drive so far."
He smiles. "Honey, that's part of a job. Plus, you'll be making a lot of money."
I nodded. I really couldn't argue with that. I know that I needed to find something to do and help out Julie so she wouldn't be doing all of it.
"Where's Sydney?"
-
I never really trusted anyone's driving except for my out, but Sydney is probably the only one who I trust with driving me around.
Not counting Julie.
She knows what she's doing, she doesn't look at her phone. She doesn't swerve off the road for any unknown reason. She's very cautious about everything she's doing.
But in no way is she a granny while driving. This chick can floor it when she wants to.
We got into the city about an hour later, looking around at all the different things they had here. I couldn't help but become mesmerize by how big this place was.
"I have a friend who works as a jewelry store." Sydney says.
I shrugged, not really wanting to work at a diamond store or any jewelry store in that matter.
"Not your type, huh?" She chuckles.
I smile as I look out the window. "I just want something that peaks my interest." I looked at all the buildings passing by.
"What about Photography?"
I look over at her as she was smiling at me then looks back at the road. "That sounds pretty cool. Do you know someone that works with that?"
She nods then turns down a road. "Absolutely."
We parked into a parking lot in front of this huge building. As we were walking inside, I kept looking around at how big this place was and amazing it looked.
After she talked with someone at the front desk, I look over at her. "How do you have so many connections?"
She smiles then leans against the desk. "My father owned this really big company, plus my mom was owning another one also. They're pretty much the highest rank business owners at the top." She shrugs then smiles. "I'm their daughter so it makes sense to have so many connections with other businesses."
Crossing my arms, I looked her up and down. "Well damn."
She smiles, then the man comes back and they talk for a moment. She smiles at me then grabs my arm and I follow her through some doors then down a hall.
We take an elevator up to the twenty something floor, which I already forgot as we stepped out and was now walking down another long hallway.
We came to these double doors then walked in to be hit with a large space, a long wooden table in the center, big ass windows displaying out behind it, plus a projector on the far right.
There was a man sitting at the very end of the table and when he saw us, he smiled then stood up as we walked towards him.
Sydney shook hands with him then his attention focused on me. "My name is Mr. Hugh, nice to meet you."
I introduced myself then we all sat at the table. I watched as Sydney and Mr. Hugh was talking, and every once in a while his eyes would find mine.
They were talking about the job for me, and I could tell that Mr. Hugh was excited about it, but not sure if it has to do with Sydney asking about it or not.
After they talked, Mr. Hugh started asking me questions as far as the job that I'm wanting. We talked about what was to be expected and everything else that was job related.
"I think you'll be just fine." He smiles. "I'll need you to fax over some paperwork and you'll be ready to go."
Sydney smiles then nods. "Will do sir. We'll get that to you as soon as possible."
We said our goodbyes then walked out, back down the hallway, on the elevator, down more hallways then out of the front doors of the building.
I couldn't think Sydney enough as we were driving back home. I owe her so much for doing this for me. I was excited to be starting on this job and couldn't wait to see where this leads.
