Finally, the day had come. A beautiful July dusk, the purple sun setting over the horizon threaded an array of colour through the sky. It was perfect.
Cheryl had spent hours preparing for this moment, both physically, with the help of Veronica Lodge, who had a surprising flair for picnic aesthetics, and mentally, Cheryl knew this moment had been coming for a while and had tried her hardest to prepare but her stomach still tumbled at the thought of it.
She dressed in a simple, but cute red dress, bodycon, to show all the curves Cheryl knew her girlfriend worshipped, although her aim wasn't to get the girl in bed. Bear stayed close to her feet as she curled her auburn hair and accessorised with pearl clips. She really went above with her makeup though, the girl never really experimented with makeup, tending to stick to her classic base and a red lip. Today was different though and her makeup had to fit the occasion, she opted for a more glowy look, highlighting the tip of her nose and cheekbones, her eyes were dashed with a copper shadow which complemented her nude lip perfectly. A quick spray of Victoria Secret and she was ready.

Toni arrived at Sweetwater River with no clue what was in store for her, all she knew was Cheryl was taking her on a date, and by the looks of it, a boat would be involved. Toni needed to talk to the girl, seriously, she knew the situation they were in. The serpent took a deep breath and took out her pocket-mirror to check her makeup, then she saw her. A vision of pure beauty elegantly striding towards her, goddam how could I ever let her go.
She's breathtaking Cheryl thought as she approached, although going with a simple black number her girlfriend could make anything look good, her pink curls hung loosely over her shoulders, Cheryl loved her girlfriend's hair, everything about her made her heart beat faster and faster every time she saw her.

They climbed aboard the small rowing boat and set off across the river, it really was perfect. The boat ride was silent, no talking was needed for these lovers to show their affection. When they reached the shore an elaborate array of cheeses and meats were laid out on a picnic blanket, candles surrounded it and rose petals were scattered.
"this is incredible Cher! i'm so fucking lucky to have you"
A passionate kiss broke the silence. The two ate and spoke like the old days when Samuel hadn't been around, they felt young again. As the sun dipped below the horizon the girls snuggled against each other under the soft blanket Veronica had laid out.
"i've missed you" Cheryl mumbles into her girlfriend's chest
"i'm so sorry I've been ignoring you, I promised I'll make it up to you. It's just my dad hasn't been here for 12 years and we have so much to catch up on"
"listen Toni, i really..really love you"
The serpent's eyes soften.
"..and I understand your situation with you dad but when I'm with you I feel alive. when you're with your dad or in another class I feel like a zombie-like my soul isn't present.
