Max's POV
I grabbed my skateboard heading off to school.
I'm excited to now live a somewhat normal life seeing as there aren't any slimy monsters roaming around Hawkins. I especially wanted to see my best friend Eleven.
A week before today I felt something about her. It may be nothing, but I don't know. Whenever I saw her my knees weakened. I felt as if my whole world was about her. The way her hair blew in the wind, the way her chocolate eyes sparkled in the sun, and the way her lips curved up when she smiled. That smile, that smile kills me, every time.
If looks could kill I would be six feet under.
I sighed feeling the wind go past my face. My emotions should be the last thing on my mind on the first day of school.
I gradually pulled up to the bike racks where I saw Mike, Dustin, Will, and Lucas.
I knew Lucas had feelings for me. I wasn't actually into guys, but I tried to force myself to like guys. So I kissed Lucas at the snowball dance, but all I felt was emptiness, a feeling of despair because now I had just broken another heart.
His.
"Hi, guys." I smiled waving at the boys.
"Hey." They greeted back.
"How are you?" Lucas asked smirking.
"Good, I guess." I shrugged. I never genuinely liked Lucas flirting with me knowing the only way this will end is him getting heartbroken.
"God Lucas. You're horrible at flirting." Dustin sighed facepalming.
"I'm not flirting!" Lucas yelled.
"Dang, okay sure." Dustin said while he rolled his eyes.
"Uh- anyways, do you guys know where Eleven is?" I asked.
"She's coming soon. Hopper is driving her." Mike muttered.
Mike and Eleven have been dating since the snowball dance. I didn't think of it that much until they started doing weird things in front of my face. Whenever they hugged or flirted I felt an uncomfortable pain in my stomach. I never felt madder in my life.
I soon heard a car engine from around the corner, I lit up in excitement.
Eleven.
I waited for the car to stop patiently so I didn't look weird.
Once she stepped out of the car her eyes immediately landed on mine. She smiled, the sun reflecting on her eyes. She started to run towards me.
But then Mike went over to El and put his arms around her, El's smile immediately dropped to a frown, and so did mine. It was not normal for El to look so repulsed when mike came over to hug her. I just shrugged it off, maybe she's in a bad mood.
"So guys how about a sleepover at my house tonight," Mike said while putting his arm around El's waist. El squirmed, clearly uncomfortable at his touch.
"Yeah sure," said Lucas and Dustin in unison.
"Can we play d&d?" Will asked while Lucas rolled his eyes.
"I can come over" Eleven smiled. Since El was going I decided to come as well.
"Yeah, I'll come" I nodded.
"Meet at my house around 4" Mike said as him and the rest of the party headed off to class.
The rest of the day went by quick. I spent most of the class just doodling in my sketchbook and frequently glancing at El. She looked astonishing. Whenever a challenging question came up she would scrunch her nose, it was the cutest thing.
Once school was over, I skated home to grab things for the sleepover at mikes tonight.
