chapter twenty!

CASSIE DIDN'T KNOW HOW THE HELL Dustin had managed to steal one of these mini-truck things, but she wasn't about to complain about it. She was shoved in the back with Steve and Robin, who she found out was just as in the clouds as she was. She was thrilled about this, laughing happily with her friends as they gushed about how strong and cool she was. Cassie bathed in this attention, feeling more like herself than she had in the past week.

"Oh, Jesus! Slow down, man!" complained Steve, Cassie shaking her head with a loud laugh. Steve elbowed her, leading to her punching his shoulder and the two just kicking at each other playfully.

"Yeah, what is this? The Indy 500?" agreed Robin, resulting in Cassie laughing even louder as she fell over in Robin's lap, unable to keep herself up. Dustin peered back, wondering how that was the same girl who had literally just knocked out three Russian soldiers.

Steve stopped laughing and looked over at the brunette in confusion, "You mean the Indy 300?"

"No dingus," replied Robin, shaking her head with a small laugh. Cassie rolled over, clutching her stomach in hysterics. "It's 500."

"It's 300!"

"Steve," wheezed Cassie, her chest beginning to hurt from laughing. "You're so stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid."

Robin laughed, "Let's just say... one million!"

All three of the drugged up teens fell back into uncontrollable laughter at Robin's words, the two girls holding onto each other for dear life. Dustin and Erica shared a look, a mixture of concern and annoyance in both of their features.

"What is wrong with them?"

"I don't know," replied Dustin, looking back at the three. Despite the situation, Dustin couldn't help but fin himself smiling at the sight of Cassie so happy. He'd noticed something being off with her, but with everything going on he couldn't even mention it. Erica looked ahead, her eyes widening at a large crate. She hit Dustin on the arm, dragging his attention away from the three in the back.

"Watch out!"

Unfortunately, the warning was slightly too late and Dustin crashed full force into the crates. The three in the back were sent flying around, each of them hitting their heads and groaning loudly.

"You three all right back there?" asked Dustin. He was given no response as the teens continued to groan about being thrown around. Dustin looked at Erica, who gave him an unimpressed look. He shrugged it off, "They're fine."

Dustin quickly let them out of the back, Erica watching as they stumble out of the vehicle. Robin and Cassie still held onto each other, earning a scowl from Steve as he tried to pull Cassie from the older girls grasp and into his own.

Dustin grabbed Cassie's arm, pulling her away from both of the older teens. Cassie wondered if she should be urgent. This seemed like an urgent situation, but honestly she was too happy to care. "Let's go. Now!"

The five hurried into the elevator. Dustin is quick to use the stolen key card to send them back up to the mall. He sighed, looking over at Cassie with a saddened look as he saw the bruises and blood on her face. She surely wasn't as bad as Steve, but she had gotten roughed up some. She didn't seem to care in the slightest, however, as she stood behind a dolly cart, motioning Steve to hop on the tool.

"Steve, Steve! C'mon!" said Cassie, Robin moving to stand beside her younger friend. Steve hopped on, swaying on the cart as the elevator lifted them up fast. Cassie let out a string of giggles as Steve laughed in excitement like a child.
