Chapter Nine

As the sun set on the forest moon, the rebels and the Ewoks sat around a fire as C-3PO told the Ewoks of their missions. Emily was standing close to Luke she could sense that he was even more troubled than before.

"Hey." Emily said looking up at him. He didn't turn to face Emily, he just stared at 3PO listening to him. Emily looked around to see everyone looking at the droid. She turned to Leia, who had her head rested upon Han.

"Luke!" she spat tugging at his sleeve to get him to look at her. Emily was then silenced as the Ewoks began muttering to themselves.

"What's going on?" Han asked whispering to Leia.

"I don't know." The princess responded shaking her head. Chief Chirpa silenced the crowd then drums began to beat.

"Wonderful. We are now part of the tribe." 3PO declared. Han was then surrounded by Ewoks hugging onto him.

"Just what I always wanted." Han said with sarcasm. Luke turned to Emily pushing her slowly away from the others.

"Luke!---" Emily begun but was soon silenced as he kissed her.

"Listen to me, I want you to get out of here. I want you to hide, run as far as you can into the woods and hide. Wait for me to come and find you, please stay away from me until then." Luke said as he pulled Emily closer to him. He pushed her across the bridge until she reached the woods. She looked back at him once more before taking off. By now Leia had left the others to see what was wrong with him.

"Luke, what's wrong?" Leia asked as he had his back to her. He had his eyes fixated upon the wood-line.

"Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?" Luke asked turning to face her and sitting down. He took one last glance at the forest, after deciding that Emily was a safe distance away from him he turned back to Leia.

"Just a little bit. She died when I was very young." Leia said sitting next to Luke.

"What do you remember?" Luke questioned curious.

"Just images, really. Feelings." she responded wondering why he was questioning about her mother.

"Tell me." he begged.

"She was...very beautiful. Kind...but sad. Why are you asking me this?" Leia said with a sigh.

"I have no memory of my mother. I never knew her." Luke didn't look at Leia he stared at the ground.

"Luke, tell me what's troubling you?" Leia asked.

"Vader is here. Now. On this moon. I sent Emily away, to keep her safe." Luke said now looking at Leia.

"How do you know?" Leia questioned.

"I felt his presence. He's coming for me. He can feel when I'm near. That's why I have to go. As long as I stay I'm endangering the group and our mission here. I have to face him." he said looking quickly at the woods hearing a rustle in the trees. "I know you're there. I told you to run." Luke whispered.

"Why?" Leia asked ignoring his whisper to Emily.

"He's my father." Luke whispered looking at Leia.

"Your father?" Leia said confused.

"There's more. It won't be easy for you to hear it, but you must. If I don't make it back you're the only hope for the Alliance. Keep Emily safe, she'd go after Vader, the Emperor or even me if I go to the darkside. Don't let her out of your sight." Luke said.

"Luke don't talk that way. You have a power I don't understand and could never have." Leia said shaking her head.

"You're wrong, Leia. You have that power, too. In time, you'll learn to use it as I have. The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. And...my sister has it." Luke said looking at Leia, her expression was shocked. "Yes. It's you, Leia."

"I know. Somehow I've always known." Leia said looking at her brother.

"Then you know why I have to face him." Luke said hoping she'd understand.

"No! Luke, run away. Far away. If he can feel your presence then leave this place. I wish I could go with you." Leia said standing up.

"No, you don't. You've always been strong." Luke said standing up with her.

"But why must you confront him?" she asked trying not to cry.

"Because...there is good in him. I've felt it. He won't turn me over to the emperor. I can save him. I can turn him back to the good side. I have to try." Luke quickly kissed Leia upon her cheek and took off into the woods.

"Hey, what's going on?" Han asked coming out to check on Leia.

"Nothing. I just want to be alone for a little while." Leia answered quickly.

"Nothing? Come on, tell me. What's going on? " Han said as he now stood beside Leia. She turned to him in tears.

"I...I can't tell you." she said wiping a tear away.

"Could you tell Luke? Is that who you could tell?" Han asked looking in the direction Luke had just left in.

"I..." she said turning away not wanting to look at him.

"Ah." Han started as he walked away but turned around once he heard Leia begin to sniffle. "I'm sorry." he said.

"Hold me." she whispered turning to him as he held her in his arms.

Luke walked through the forest hearing the cracking of twigs behind him.

He sighed "I know you're there. Why didn't you listen to me? I just want you safe, is it that hard for you to understand that I'm trying to protect you?" he didn't turn around.

"I love you." her voice whispered. Emily now stood behind him walking closer.

"I love you as well, but I am your Master. You're just a Padawan, we can't have a relationship Emily. It will destroy us. Leave me, Emily." Luke said turning to see her behind him.

"I'm not leaving you. Please, Luke. Take me with you." Emily begged him going to his arms.

"No, understand this, we don't have a future. Our future doesn't exist." Luke said doing his best to push away her embrace. "I'm not attached to you, Emily. Leave!"

"You don't mean that." Emily said as tears started to form in her eyes.

Luke felt her emotion overflow his mind. "Stop." with that he took off leaving Emily alone in the woods. She fell onto the forest floor curling herself up into a ball crying. Emily had never felt like this. Her heart felt like it was just removed from her chest.

Luke fell to his knees as he drew closer to where Vader was. He felt Emily's broken heart beating slowly. He couldn't deny his feelings, Luke, in fact loved Emily. He pulled himself onto his feet and continued to walk through the thick forest until he had reached the Empire's camp on Endor. Luke approached the guards calmly holding up his hands. Luke handed over his lightsaber and was quickly cuffed.

Emily awoke with a sharp pain in her side. Her eyes opened to see two scout troopers pointing their guns at her.

"You. Get up!" one ordered, Emily scrambled to her feet. As the scouts got cuffs out Emily slowly started to reach for her lightsaber when one of the troopers shot her in the left arm. She winced as the blast burned her skin. Wasting no time, the guards cuffed her and took her hostage.
