Harrison García is my best friend. It's been like that since I was born. How does that work? Well, allow me to explain. Both of our moms have been best friends since college, meaning that whenever they went to see each other, Harrison and I would see each other. Not only that, but we both only lived a block away from each other, so we'd frequently see each, whether it'd be in school or at each other's house.
Our parents made sure to keep us near each other since they have the idea in their heads that both of us will get together. Why? I have no clue. Maybe it's just because of the popular belief that a boy and a girl could never be "just friends". Unfortunately for them, that's the case for me and Harrison.
It is now the first week into summer break and I was laying in bed with Harrison watching The Flash, a show he's been so desperately trying to get me to watch.
"It actually isn't bad," I admit once the second episode ends. "Yeah, I know. You would've been known that if you would've watched it when I first told you to."
Furrowing my eyebrows, I feigned confusion. "Oh, I'm sorry. Since when did I start taking orders from you?"
"Since I became an adult and you were still a child," he responds cockily.
"Shut up," I say while hitting him with a pillow, "My birthday's only in two months," I retort.
"Doesn't matter. I'm older than you so you have to do whatever I say," he says with a smile, raking a finger through his soft and silky golden-brown hair.
Rolling my eyes, I sit up on his king-sized bed. "Whatever."
Grinning in triumph, Harrison stands up to stretch, his basic white tee riding up a bit, allowing his toned skin and a faint outline of his abs to show.
One thing I can confidently say is that my best friend is hot. Just because I find him attractive doesn't mean I'm in love with him or have a crush on him. It just means that I appreciate the time and effort that his genes took to make him look like that because wow.
"We should do something," I say, looking at my phone to see that it's only 3:30 pm.
"Oh," Harrison says, "am I not entertaining you?" With a hand on his chest, he does a dramatic gasp and turns his head in the opposite direction of me.
Rolling my eyes, I looked at him blankly. "Are you done?" I ask him as he turns back around to face me.
"Yeah."
"Great. Your moms have been gone for a week so far and aren't coming back until next Sunday. We can't just lay around your house freely the whole time," I say.
Right now, Harrison's moms, Annie and Andrea, were on a romantic getaway to Barcelona for their 4 year anniversary, leaving Harrison alone for two weeks. They'd been married for only 4 years when same-sex marriage was legalized but they'd been together for 20 years.
Harrison hates being home alone so he asked me to stay over with him until his parents got back. Since my mom knew that Harrison and I's relationship is strictly platonic, it wasn't hard to convince her to let me stay over until they came back.
"Well what do you want to do?" he asks me, plopping back down on the bed, his head on my lap. Running my fingers through his silky locks, I shrugged.
"I don't know. We can go to the movies or the park or something."
"We could go to the grocery store, grab some stuff to bake cookies, build a fort and then watch movies?"
"You really like being in the house all day, huh?" I ask him with a smile. It's always been that way with him. He'd only go out when he actually needed to.
