Her wicked smile chills me and I freeze. I watch as her gold eyes meet mine and she jerks her hands up causing the ground to shake.

"You could do this, you could do so much more. You've only touched the tip of the iceberg and you'll be swallowed by my powers. If you let me back in, I could guide you. I could control-"

I start stumbling backwards and scream,"Get out of my head!"

The scene around me shatters and I fall into darkness.

I jerk up and try to still my heart. I look to Eli and find her fast asleep. I stretch my spine and lift myself off the floor and slip out the door.

I poor myself a bowl of cereal and pad over to the living room. I stare out the window and watch the cars pass.

"Oh, your up."

I turn to the hallway and see Jack emerging wearing a suit and tie. I mumble a good morning and go back to looking out the window.

I don't hear him move so I turn back and find him staring at me. I shoot him a questioning look, "What's wrong?"

"Aren't you going to make me breakfast?"

I snort, "No. But you can help yourself to anything in the kitchen."

Jack stands there confused before he scowls and stomps to the door. I wince when he slams it behind him. He needs to be more considerate and less of whatever that was.

Thankfully nobody woke up and I manage get myself ready for School before the others alarm goes off.

Aunt Elenore peers into the room, "Where's Jack?"

I shrug, "He left earlier. I assume to his job, he was in a suit and tie."

Auntie nods, "I was hoping to catch him before he left? Do you think he's still in the hall?"

"Only if he liked standing around for two hours. He was out the door at four thirty."

"And what were you doing up at four thirty?" Eli comes into the room and gives me a look, "That's no time to be up and about."

I roll my eyes, "Yeah, like your never up around that time. And I was up at three o'four. So ha."

Auntie crosses her arms, "Why are you up at that time? Children need sleep."

Eli and I both deadpan, "Well sleep when were dead."

Eli then gives us a wicked smile, "I have had plenty of sleep last summer."

Aunt Elenore looks confused but I will my features not to change. My heart pangs and I swallow the lump in my throat.

"Yeah, yeah. Come on Percy will probably be waiting."

I grab my bag and walk out into the hall and am surprised that Percy isn't. I wait five minutes before walking down to his appartment and knocking on the door.

Percy's Mom answers the door and gives me a confused look. "Celeste, what are you doing here?

"Is Percy okay, he's not normally late."

Sally gives me a look, "I thought he was up, I heard his alarm. Step inside for a moment." I do as she says and she disappears down the hallway. After a moment she reappears, "He has a bug, he is going to stay home today."

I nod and bid farewell too her as Eli and I start on our way.

"So, where do you think the teacher is?" It's been twelve minutes since school started and our math teacher hasn't showed up.

Lia shrugs, "Maybe we ran her off."

I am about to answer when I feel something running down the hallway, something big. I reach for my bracelet just as a hellhound runs through the door.

I curse under my breath and summon my sword. I look around the room. Many of the students are cowering at the back of the class some frozen in fear. I glance at Lia and am shocked to find her staring at the hound in horror. She turns to me and let's out a strangled noise.

"You have a sword? What is that going to do! It's like fighting a dog with a toothpick!" Her voice trebles.

"Lia, look at me. Call Percy and tell him I'll be at his place in about twenty-thirty minutes." I hand her my phone using my voice to calm her enough to do as I said.

The hellhound, having enough of waiting snarls and stalks twords me. I run forward and stab it's leg. It yelps and charges at me. I wait till the last minute before jumping out of the way so it slides out into the hall and collides with the lockers.

I dart out after it and lunge at it's head. It manages to move slightly and get a shoulder wound while batting me to the side.

I collide with the lockers and knee makes a sickening noise. I grit my teeth and watch in horror as Lia runs out and stands infront of me.

"I have no clue what you are but go away!" She throws her binder at it and it gives her a confused look before it starts to walk twords us.

I frantically pull my necklace off and nock and arrow just to have it miss when an earthquake strikes.

I feel my gut twist and for a minute I am horrified before I realize that I can tell where the earthquakes are coming from.

The girl that was the first friend I made in this school is the cause of the earthquakes.
